Possibly the most dangerous country on this list, PNG is not for the faint-hearted, but if you’re looking for a serious adventure, this is where it’s at. The rugged terrain and its fair share of natural disasters mean that decent roads are a rarity and interstate highways are but a pipedream. Just getting around is an adventure in itself – but that’s just the tip of the iceberg – PNG is a place where anything can (and often does) happen. Take a dugout canoe along the Sepik River, stay with an isolated highland tribe, brave the Kokoda track… Papua New Guinea truly is the land that time forgot.
