Step back into time at this 1950's inspired resort. When America still had some sense of innocence and families enjoyed the time they had with each other and not the vices of modern life.

You go back in time. The theme of this hotel is mad men meets your childhood. It has retro decor from when you walk into the lobby all the way to your hotel room. It is great for families as the rooms are spacious and have a kitchen. It is a easy and quick bus ride to the universal park. The cost is also reasonable. This is one of my favorite hotels at universal.

I am one of those people that can look at something and judge it pretty well, before I inspect further. Every time I saw that "ugly a**" hotel in the horizon, I immediately thought of my elementary school that had never been upgraded from the time it was built through my stay in the 90s. I kept thinking, "Yeah, right… They're probably really cheap… Who would want to stay there. Maybe it was a hotel that was converted into a YMCA or school or something…" I always saw it a distance, so I didn't know any better.

I was checking out hotels for my mom, because she is visiting Orlando soon. I decided, because I am scared of driving, that my 4-year-old and I would walk there from Universal. After all, it made sense that "Universal Islands of Adventure" would be nearby, with the address being Adventure Way. Yeah, we got an adventure alright!

I'm the type that sees something bad and will try to make the best out of it. When my Google Map app told me to walk where I couldn't and there were no sidewalks, I immediately made my way to the parking area at Universal Studios. They were so helpful and guided me through the elevator RIGHT INTO CITY WALK! I cut through the park, after showing her "what she could see" and made my way behind Margaritaville. It was cool, actually. It was like a little jungle excursion. I kept telling her the dinosaurs were there.

As a local, I have stayed in many hotels by Universal… Let me rephrase that. I have stayed at many Universal Hotels. This is my favorite. On our two mile walk through a scenic path, which would keep the sound down for those relaxing at the resort, we watched the Universal boats go up and down the green river. We watched the man with the bike pull take families back and forth to the park. We saw the birds nearby. It was peaceful….

THEN, IT HIT ME! That UGLY building was getting closer! THIS was Cabana Bay Beach Resort. I sucked it up and walked into the path of the building. The dang sign said "We have Color TV…" I thought, "OH, NO!" Then, I walk inside!

The joke was on me! It was a cross between MODERN INNOVATION and 40s-50s AMERICANA. I swear, I could have met Lucille Ball! It was amazing! They had touch screen information centers and awesome eatery areas. They had a giant cafeteria with old school television playing on the GIANT flat screen. They had a lounge that played old cartoons. They even had a pay phone! My heart stopped when they said they were completely booked. The lady in the front (most of the staff is from EVERYWHERE, by the way…. That is very cool.), she told me that they often are booked full and that I should call ahead and book ahead. They are affordable and yet it GETS BETTER. So, there is an indoor shop and Starbucks…. Oh, wait. I'm still stuck on the inside… let me tell you what happened next.

She allowed me to walk around the premises. Cabana believes on being clean, by the way. They had old school waste cans every so many feet. They had a man made beach for the children and a side of the pool just for them. They had a giant connect four game and volleyball. They had a lazy river! I think they had two pools actually, I can't remember. I know they had a few lifeguards, which is getting to be rare at many hotels. They also had outdoor lounges and a cabana bar for guests. They even have a waterfall.

AND THEN, I GOT TO SEE A ROOM! Turns out, a guest left the windows open, setting his things down while he took a shower or went out, perhaps. I felt like a window shopper or peeping tom or something, because I was looking into this man's window! hahahaha

Either way, I didn't want to leave. I am thinking of scheduling a trip for MYSELF real soon. My family would enjoy hanging out at the hotel for the weekend. On my way out, I realized that there were staged settings. There were cars from "back in the day" lined up, as if they were receiving valley treatment. There was also a vintage bus stop with Universal resort busses that came regularly for guests lined up to get on.

On my way to the hotel, I noticed a construction site. I am pretty sure that they are building a new building to accommodate demand. I truly hope so, because I probably would have stayed there that night. It was getting late and I just wanted to relax and have fun. I definitely recommend this hotel to every and anyone that can appreciate the past.

Then, it hit me!

This WAS Cabana Bay. But

First to Review

This nostalgic, vintage-inspired hotel has what every kid at heart could hope to have: food, and lots of plain-good fun. First, Cabana Bay offers guests multiple dining options. For drinks, there’s the neat Swizzle Lounge in the lobby, the Atomic Tonic poolside bar, and an in-house Starbucks. For food (and drinks) there is the Bayliner Diner (pizza, burgers, and sandwiches? Oh my!), The Hideaway Bar and Grill, Galaxy Bowl Restaurant and pizza delivery courtesy of Delizioso Pizza.

Moving onto the fun stuff, Cabana Bay features recreations such as the magical 50’s-themed Galaxy Bowl, Game-O-Rama arcade featuring both modern and vintage video games, Cabana Courtyard pool area (complete with a waterslide!) and Lazy River Courtyard (complete with a lazy river, sand beach, waterfalls and more!).
