Why Go

Nice, aptly named, is truly a rather nice town. Lovely, even. Situated along the French Riviera, Nice offers pristine weather, pebble beaches and crystal blue water, all which help draw a steady pilgrimage of French and international tourists each year. Dripping with romantic narrow alleys, vibrant flower markets and cafes to wile away an afternoon or two, Nice is the quintessential South of France destination. Start at the Colline du Chateau to get a bird's-eye view of the bay below. Wander along the Baie des Anges, visit the Musee et Site Archeologiques de Cimiez for authentic Gallo-Roman architecture or stroll through Vieux Nice (Old Town) for a glimpse into Nice's architectural past. Nice was very nice, as they say. A beach town in south of France with full of life, culture, beach and seafood.

Nice has to be my favourite city of the Côte d'Azur. There truly is a little bit for everyone. Foodies will enjoy roaming the colourful streets of the Old Town, whilst Trendsters will take delight in the high-end shopping streets. Nightlife lovers, History Buffs and Art lovers will also find something for them. Add to that the gorgeous sparkling mediterranean and colourful architecture - you have yourself the perfect getaway.

I strongly recommend booking a holiday rental with www.sunlightproperties.com - for the flexibility and high quality standard. They have something for every taste and budget. Works out much cheaper than a hotel, especially if travelling in groups.

The largest city in the Côte d'Azur, Nice is often used as just a transit point to the beaches further west or to Provence. To simply pass through is a mistake. Those who visit will find a charming old town, fantastic market, and relaxing beach clubs where you can easily pass a day listening to the rattle of the rocks against the surf as you sip rosé. Fête de la Musique is one of my favorite times to visit -- the old town really comes to life with music and the Niçois are natural bon vivants. The July 14th attack has put a damper on tourism but don't let fear keep you away. Prices are down and you'll have more of the city to yourself.

Nice is a perfect place to stay for exploring the French Riviera as long as sandy beaches are not high on your list. The rocky shore and blue ocean are gorgeous to gaze upon. Restaurants and shops of wide variety are on offer. Transportation east and west and into the interior are easy. The mild dry climate make for perfect days for a visitor.

Known as the capital of the French Riviera, Nice is a bustling city with plenty to offer pretty much every type of traveller. The question often asked is "should I stay in Nice or Cannes?" This is where the relationship between the two cities is akin to sibling rivalry. Nice certainly has the edge when it comes to museums and galleries, as well as restaurants to suit every pocket. If the beach is your main criterion, then beware, the one in Nice has pebbles the size of golf balls, while in Cannes it's beautiful fine sand.

Le Vieux Nice, Musee Chagal, Cimiez, La Place Massena, le Vieux Port, Le Chateau, cinemas, museums, La Promenade des Anglais... you name it... Nice offers everything to the traveller independently of taste and budget. Come to discover it.

Nice is really Nice.
My first introduction to the Cote D'Azur and Nice was in 1960. And I have been back several times and have seen how this city has changed for the good.
Nice, once an Italian city, with the name Nikia (after Nike the Greek Goddess of Victory) what can still be seen in the beautiful old Italian section of the city, its market, seafood restaurants and narrow streets and shops.
In 1861 was finally Nice French. After the discovery by the Brittse aristocracy, thinking of Promenade des Anglais (the English Promenade) Nice changed from a rather small fishing town transformed into a fashionable seaside resort.
Nice has beautiful wide avenues, excellent shopping and thriving cafes and terraces. Just walk around, take a dip or swim in the sea, visit the antiques and flower market and relax.
Many tourists find Nice expensive, but if you pay attention and go a bit further from the sea and the promenade you will find enough cheaper shops, cafes and restaurants.
Just walk and Explore!
Tip If you want to drink beer then order a “Demi Pression” then you get a half pint French beer (Good quality Beer from the French Alsace near the German border) that Beer is many times cheaper than other foreign beer they like to serve to tourists and it’s usualy much cheaper . Would you like a glass of wine ask for by a glass red wine “Unne Verre de vin Rouge de la Maison” or by a glass white wine order a “Verre Vin Blanc de la Maison”.
