Meh, I'm sorry but NYC does not have authentic Mexican food no matter how many times a restaurant says "authentic Mexican good".... You gotta go to Los Angeles, San Diego, SF, AZ, ... Read more
NM, etc....sorry NYC you have great pizza but no good Mexican good. I've been here over a year and I have yet to have any authentic Mexican food...stick to pizza. I'm not bashing but if you say this is authentic than you've never tried Mexican food in the west coast, or in mexico....I just think it's bit pretentious to say that your food is "authentic" when its not. I brought some Mexican friends who live in mexico and in LA and they felt the same way....and its way overpriced!

You won't find chips and salsa at this phenomenal and under the radar Mexican restaurant. If you want authentic Mexican food , this is it! The yucca is one of the best I've ever tasted. Be mindful of their hours!

Not only because I've worked here before but the food here is amazing !!!

Fish tacos and steak tacos are very flavorful and fresh tasting. The burger they sell comes with a side of seasoned fries that are so delicious. Enchiladas is also another plate that should be experienced, it's like pigs in a blanket except substitute the sausage for chicken or meat of your choice covered over with a layer of cheese and tortilla.

Also, for drinks, their margaritas are fresh and flavorful. They have this great spicy margarita, instead of salt on the rim they substitute it for chili powder (it's not as spicy as it sounds, it adds the perfect kick) if your not into spicy stuff at all, don't even try it. Your going to not like the tingly spices feeling on your lips.

The staff is also very welcoming. Keep in mind that this restaurant has 3 parts to it. The taquearía that on the ground level, the cafe that's around the corner were you can grab food/brunch & the brasserie which opens at 5pm and you enter through the ground level taqueria, downstairs through the kitchen & into a whole other dimension. A lot of celebrities do go here for its secretive restaurant below. Reservations are a bit difficult to make but definitely worth a try.

Lively Mexican eatery hidden behind a New York City corner deli façade. Take the mazelike route down the stairs, around the corner and through the kitchen to the bar and wait to be seated. Staff is upbeat and friendly; drinks are strong—try the dry margarita. For something to eat, opt for the refreshing, spicy ceviche, which is unconventionally topped with apple shavings. Don’t forget to finish off – or simply just go for – the warm chocolate cake with marshmallow and vanilla ice cream. Always have a reservation; this place is packed even on a Monday. Remember to knock before exiting and open the door slowly.

Amazing mexican food! Great place to sit inside or outside! There is also a secret room downstairs to have some drinks at night!

honestly, this place misses the mark for me. if you're really in the mood for Mexican, try any other place. if you're feeling adventurous, take the train into Brooklyn. you'll find some really good Mexican food in neighborhoods like bed-stuy, park slope, etc. this place is overpriced for messy, sub-par cuisine. sorry :(

The food is ok, staff is awful but it's all about location and buzz. Barbacoa tacos are worth it!

Here's your Mexican taqueria NYC style. Super casual spot where you can sit outside and get your grub on.

I only tried the crab tostada and it was bomb!

Excellent Mexican with great outdoor seating. A fantastic place to sit outside in the summer. The fish tacos and Mexican corn are personal favorites but everything I've ever had here is quite good.

Be sure to sit downstairs. Not the easiest reservation to get, but worth it. Great for a date or group dinner. Think trendy underground Mexican with good food and great drinks.

The first few times I went here, I took it for what it appeared to be - a small taqueria, serving great tacos and constantly packed over its 15 or so person capacity. But then I went with a friend who asked for a table. Led down nondescript narrow stairs in the back and through the basement kitchen, I came out into what can only be described as a speak-easy taco joint. The food was great, drinks were well done (unsurprisingly tequila based, and spicy), and the atmosphere was...like a 1920's underground bar. Only tacos were also illegal.

Tequila Please!!! Bartender Lucas is who you want! He makes the best jalepeno margarita! This place is great because they use agave nectar instead of simple syrup in their cocktails. If you stay for dinner make sure to blow kisses to the chefs as you enter and leave and definitely order the corn on the cob if you have never tried it!

Super taqueria and cafe. Groovy vibe. Fun location. What's not to like. The music is fun. For a casual meal this is a good place to start the evening.

I’m from Southern California, so my Mexican food bar is set quite high. La Esquina is the best Mexican food I’ve found in NY, but still doesn’t hold up to the places from my childhood.
