affect where I stay, but you might be interested in the back story of this more than 100-year old hotel. Close to many subway lines, a PATH station, Washington Square Park, NYU, and Greenwich Village, it certainly has a decent location. Food and shopping abound as well. The lobby and room both felt like they were in need of renovations, and the staff were firm but cordial. The room, quite small but clean, also had a tiled bathroom floor. At the end of the day, I'd prefer to check out the record stores on nearby Bleecker St. but check out another hotel.

The Washington Square Hotel is the definition of class. Both sophisticated and understated simultaneously, walking into the lobby is like stepping back in time. It is situated adjacent to one of the more popular green spaces in New York City, Washington Square park, where there is never a shortage of local color and entertainment. It also happens to be in the heart of New York University, so it is the perfect option if you have dealings there. But outside of the benefits of its location, the stately interior is indicative of a hotel that will take care of you. The front desk is remarkably helpful in helping you find your way around town. The rooms themselves are, in a word "cozy", meaning not very big, however considering where you are located in the city, you probably won't be spending much time there outside of sleeping anyway. That said every surface was spotless and all aspects of this hotel are superbly maintained.

Everything from the entrance, to the hallways and staircases of this place have an air of the early 1900s, when the hotel was built. I was surprised to see they had a gym. It’s a little cramped, but handy if you want to get in a mini-workout. The surrounding area is really lovely to walk around, especially on a cool, fall night in NYC. The hotel is a short walk from Mario Batali’s Babbo and other great restaurants on this serene, cobblestone stretch of Greenwich Village street. The rooms are a bit sparse, but definitely have personality and a touch of Old Hollywood glamour. Each room has framed images of former starlets from the 1920s, 50s and other bygone eras. Bathrooms are small, but clean. I nearly got lost in this labyrinthian art deco haunt when making my way down to the cavernous lounge and restaurant area--really popular with guests.

Location is everything when it comes to the Washington Square Hotel. It's directly across from Washington Square Park, which is a lovely and quaint park in Lower Manhattan. While it does play host to a lot of protests and events, it's great if you stroll through the park at the right time. The hotel itself was charming from the outside, and classy on the inside. The lobby area felt comfortable yet luxury. The staff was kind and helped as much as possible. While it was oddly located (on the main floor just off of the lobby) there is also a gym and sauna for guests to use. This is a great hotel option for anyone looking to stay somewhere with a lot of history and charm.

A wonderful place to stay in Greenwich Village. Bob Dylan and Joan Baez stayed here for a while...back in the day!

The guys here couldn't do enough for my daughter & I, as we arrived weary and hungry after our mega-flight from Singapore via Dubai. We scoffed pizza from the recommended legendary local Ben's, while watching the July 4th Fireworks from our window. The room was pure NYC: tiled bathroom, clean, comfy beds, all 2 mins or so from shops, subway and such good pizza. The team gave directions, did printing at the last minute, cheerfully served breakfast, and confirmed that this gem will be our home base next time we hit NYC!
