My friend picked Vogafjos Guesthouse because she'd found that the dining area had an open window where we could see the milk cows while we ate and she knew how I love cows. It was awesome and more. The cabins we stayed in were adorable (as apparent from the photo). We had our own cabin (three of us together) across the road from the main guesthouse, and it had a little porch with chairs and everything. So absolutely charming. The only drawback was that the walls were paper thin and our neighbor was coughing up his lungs like nothing we'd ever heard in our lives. Shame, that.
Innovation meets tradition at Vogar, Myvatnssvelt, North Iceland, It's a dairy and sheep farm, guesthouse, and Cowshed Cafe. Gayle and I had lunch here on a very Wintry December day as part of a Saga Tour group. Our Guide was Gisli Runar Vidisson (who is also an Opera singer) and this meal recommendation was spot on.
The building containing the restaurant is a bit plain from the outside, but inside we found an attractive (and warm) dining room and big windows showing the dairy barn on the other side. This native Iowan thought that was tre cool and my California residency made me suspect that my State would somehow object to this arrangement from some odd regulatory point of view.
Gisli recommended the Burger and it was amazingly good, along with a good local beer to wash it down. Service was attentive and with a nice home town feel. They also have a gift shop that has a nice artistic and rural emphasis. Gayle and I would both come back to Vogafjos in a heartbeat.
