They have a great selection of food if you’re too bored to shop at the supermarket, one thing that i love is the ambience and surroundings! They have a lot of great snacks too!

I rarely meet a food market I don't like, and this one is one of the greats. It's located in downtown Munich near the tourist areas yet it's not touristy. Sure, some stands sell magnets and beer steins, but this is a local's market where all are welcome.

Some stalls are better than others, but you'll find all sorts of goodies from sausages to fresh produce to cheeses to spices. There are several places where you can eat a quick lunch (think hearty soups, grilled sausages, cheese platters). I came here every day during my long weekend in Munich.

It's a wonderful place to buy foodie-centric souvenirs (like the homemade wurst spice I bought).

Note that this is a totally outdoor market but it still operates in inclement weather -- so bring an umbrella or jacket if it's wet or chilly.

This is one of the most vibrant market in the heart of the old town where you can get fresh produce, local food such as Vegetable(market) soup, and enjoy a beer in the beergarten.. There are two sections of the beergarten; the outer section is a place where you can bring your own food provided you buy a beer from them.

This is a fantastic outdoor market. There is lots to see, and it is a very local place. You can get excellent street food here very reasonably.

Large market area with a variety for foodstuff for sale from cheese to wine to veg and fruit. The soup stand is quite popular for a hearty, cheap and tasty meal and the location of the market is close to many attractions. There are also a host of nice restaurants in the area too.

I love this market! There are so many vendors with neatly displayed and super attractive meat, produces, sweets, etc. You name it, they have it. You can also get your lunch sorted here. It is a tourist attraction, but local also come here to shop as well. City markets are always the best place to start if you want to get to know a city.

The Viktualienmarkt is a daily outdoor market and is located right outside of Marienplatz. Foodies will delight in the wide variety of sausage options in the market. There's also a prominent beer garden in the center of the market. If possible, order a pork sandwich with cracklins.

The largest and most delicious blueberries I ever tasted came from the Viktualienmarkt. This outdoor market also sells all forms of game meats from duck to venison, a wonderful array of mushrooms and, during Oktoberfest, fragrant garlands of hops.

Just off Marienplatz is this outdoor market, which has been in operation since 1807. There are stalls selling wine, cheese, meat, produce, and some souvenirs, as well as a popular beer garden.

Local from Munich

The Viktualienmarkt is the most famous market place in Munich. It is located directly in the city center and easy reachable by S-Bahn or U-Bahn if you take the train to the station Marienplatz (City Center). From there it is less than a 5 minutes walk.

The Viktaulienmarkt is opened from Monday to Saturday. There you find local products like food (i.e. bread, cheese, honey, meat, sausages, fruits, gegetables), wood carvings, flowers, international food, restaurants, etc. Opened daily is the beer garden. There you can buy food and beer at a counter or can bring your own food. Just as you like it more :-). The beer garden is surrounded by big chestnut trees. Great atmosphere. There are a lot of natives and also tourists! Absolutely recommandable!!!
