If nude sunbathers make you nervous, you may want to put on your blinders at the Englischer Garten, as the liberating practice has been permitted here since the 1960s. The “English Garden,” located in ... Read more

Looks like just another garden but no, this is where you can suntan by the mini-waterfall along Isar bank from MaximilianStraße, or just sit amongst the green carpet and soak in the warmth as spring seeps in, a lovely way to spend your weekend.

I love the spacious English Garden in Munich. Don't miss the cool surfers catching some waves or the lively beer garden located at the Chinese pavilion.

The Englischer Garten (English Garden) is Munich’s (and Germany’s) largest city park, covering over 910 acres of lush landscaped parks, streams and lakes. Miles and miles of trails, walks and bridle paths. Perfect for picnics, birdwatching, people watching and just breathing fresh air.

English Garden is one of the biggest parks in Munich. Perfect place for a sunday picnic, surfing in the river, flying a kite, sunbathing topless, you name it.

The Englischer Garten (English Garden) is one of the best things about Munich. It's the largest park in Munich and has rivers and a prominent beer garden at the Chinese Temple. In the summer, it's a popular place to sunbath, swim, and surf (!) in the river (even if the water is extremely cold!)

I only had a shirt time in Munich...so it was either go to Dachau and get enraged...or go to the English Gardens on a beautiful day, lay out, people watch, and drink awesome beer out of giant steins...I choose the later...I choose wisely...

Beautiful Park in Munich! Lots of interesting people watching, rent a bike and enjoy the numerous paths, then grab a drink in the beer garden. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

On our last day in Munich it was actually quite hot and we wandered around this park for an hour or so to cool off. There are numerous interesting statues and fountains and there was a human statue of Beethoven, which is what we remember it by.

Definitely worth a visit while in Munich. Easy to get to, decent food at the Zum Aumeister, and a fun atmosphere.

This is my favorite spot in Munich. On any given day, you can hear classical cellists playing under a gazebo, see a couple giving an impromptu waltz performance, and watch Germans and tourists alike taking a nap on the grass. After walking around the city, this is a great place to take a break and grab a pint of beer in one of their beer gardens.

Great for getting a quick flavour of quirky Munich - check out the river surfers and nude sunbathers (the latter not too closely).

City officials had the foresight in the 1790s to set aside more than 900 acres of prime real estate for the Englischer Garten, one of Europe’s largest. You can rent a bike to explore trails that wind past green lawns and bridges toward a central lake with paddleboats. Warm weather brings sunbathers (some known to strip down to nothing), surfers, and plenty of thirsty locals and tourists alike, who head for the Chinese Tower, where the beer garden has room for 7,000.

This is where Munich's inhabitants meet in there leisure time, especially in summer. It's a nice park with some beer gardens and the famous Eisbach-surfers.

A wonderful large park not too far from the center of the city. A nice place to take a walk and watch the natives enjoy the environment. Easy to get to using the bus.

The Englisher Garten is huge. It's not exactly a garden. It's more like a park. You'll see all manner of people here. Young, old, active, inactive, clothed, and unclothed. That's right. There always seems to be the nudists somewhere in the park that are sunbathing. Definitely check out the various beer gardens in the park during the summer. Do what the locals do and join in.

Lovely to stroll around. When the weather's nice you'll encounter some amazing musicians performing. Look for the surfers -- crazy!

This is the "central park" of Munchen. It's a beautiful park with a great outdoor beer garden where you can order a liter stein of a fresh brewed beer. I would recommend the "helles" which is a blond color beer, or the famous "weisse bier". If you want something a bit lighter on alcohol, try a "radler" mix. The "dunkel" or dark beer is very good too.

Wonderful place to get back to nature during a vacation. The size of the park, located in such a large city, is awe-inspiring. Like NYC's Central Park, but with less crime and urban decay.
