Auriga makes you feel like you've stepped into in a turn-of-the century, art deco, fun house with its bright, patterned carpets, striped wallpapers, gold trimmings, thick furniture and bulbous, uniquely draped curtains. The hotel is quaint and charming in an opulent, over-the-top way. Front desk staff is not overly friendly - they do seem to thaw over time - but they are professional and efficient from the start. Location is great. You're steps away from the Centrale Railway Station and not far from the Duomo, La Scala Theater and other main attractions in Milan. The hotel also offers a complimentary Italian buffet breakfast and free stays for kids under the age of eight.

First to Review

I have to say that the first impression I had of Hotel Auriga was absolutely correct: ‘Never judge a book by its cover’ has never been more wrong. And my first impression was that of a quirky, little place that would not have been the typical Milanese hotel. First thing that caught my eye, for example, was the façade of the building, painted in red, green, yellow and blue. It is certainly not made to go unnoticed. Inside, the place is modest, but with the same fantasy of colours that give a lively atmosphere to every room. The guestrooms themselves have their own particularity with thickly striped wallpaper and opulent headboards. I particularly liked the size of those rooms (much bigger than I expected) and, once again, the colours, where the blue seems to be the absolute protagonist. It felt a bit like being in another dimension, and it was really nice to leave all the stress of a city like Milan outside the door.

A place like this one is definitely not very Milanese at all; so, if you are looking for a typical Italian place, well, just go somewhere else. Hotel Auriga, from the outside, looked very Russian to me, very folkloristic and fun. I liked the furniture in the room, it was quite original, even though there must be some carpet/tapestry trend that is going on in these years, because every centimetre of the floors and walls was covered in something soft. I liked the stripes and the colours of the room, the blue was very relaxing. The place smelled nice and I have to say that I agree with the prices, even though it is not exactly central nor the neighbourhood is one of the best ones in Milan.
