I loved going and seeing the graffiti art on the sides of buildings and even on the sidewalks in the Wynwood Arts District. You could easily spend hours here if you wanted to try to see everything, and then probably still not see everything. The artwork is amazing. If I were to describe the area, it would be as a rundown section of town trying to make it's comeback into the place to be--so some areas I wondered if I should even be there, but yet they seemed to have some nice stores along the area, as well.

Local from Miami

Spanning from North 36th street to North 20th street, the Wynwood Arts District is a just small area of Miami, yet, in the last few years, it has made huge waves. This 16 block art gallery-filled neighborhood has gone from a hipster stomping ground with a few cool bars and cafes to a high end meeting place with pricy stores, bars and restaurants. The bars and cafes that were there when Wynwood started have expanded because the area has become so popular. The once pleasant Art Walk on the second Saturdays of every month is now congested and traffic-filled. Where free parking was abundant throughout the streets, now Pay-to-Park signs scour the sidewalks looking for dollars. I long for the old, authentic Wynwood, and I hate that it has become so commercialized. But it seems all great places that begin with an artistic movement (graffiti art in this case) eventually become capitalized. It happened in Brooklyn and the Village. Nevertheless, the awe-inspiring art that began the cultural revolution and transformed Wynwood into an open canvas is still available for everyone to see. Check out wynwoodmaps.com for murals past and present.

The Wynwood Arts District is home to over 70 Art Galleries, Retail Stores, Antique Shops, Eclectic Bars, and one of the largest open-air street-art installations in the world.
The Wynwood Arts District Association has been legally operating since 2009 for the well-being and improvement of the Wynwood Arts District, one of the largest and most prominent creative communities in the United States.
Taking over what used to be the warehouse and manufacturing district of Greater Miami, developers have rehabilitated neglected warehouses, shuttered factories, and other unused buildings, transforming them into the numerous art complexes, galleries, performing art spaces, restaurants, cafes, and other creative businesses that are seen here today.
With the introduction of the Second Saturday Art Walk in the District and the arrival of the Art Basel fair in 2002, Wynwood has seen some unexpected growth in a relatively short period of time as it gets more and more attention by the locals as the go-to place for an alternative and more cultural nightlife in the City of Miami.
Though the influence and relevance of the arts community in Wynwood is undeniable, new, creative businesses of all types are opening their doors in the District and encountering success here.

Wynwood Arts District is part of the Design District, featuring some of the coolest graffiti-style murals around. Walk through this area and you’ll see tons of buildings splashed with amazing artwork from local and national artists. But you can also check out plenty of art in all of the cool contemporary galleries. Every first Saturday of the first of the month there is the Wynwood Art Walk where all the galleries open their doors, artists paint live and music is heard on the streets. This area also has lots of funky boutique shops and restaurants posing as dining rooms and art galleries.

Experience graffiti and galleries plus the rotating murals of street art on the second Saturday of every month. Wynwood opens up for free to everyone looking to explore the art world. Although you can buy tickets for your own personal tour, if you're in the area on the second Saturday, it's worth immersing yourself in the local culture. Food trucks are collectively selling their specialties, as well as galleries opening their doors to everyone. I would suggest getting there very early because it gets SWAMPED. Also, do not drive through the main street in Wynwood, too many people swarm the streets. It's impossible to drive out of.

The Wynwood Art District is home to over 70 galleries, museums and collections. There are retail stores, antique shops, and eclectic bars. One of my favorite events is Art Walk, occurring every 2nd Saturday of every month. The event features openings at Art Galleries, Art Institutions, and Retail Businesses. And might I say, the Wynwood Walls are amazing! If you're an art lover, come and enjoy!
