This area of Miami contains about 60 historic buildings, many built during the land boom of the 1920s. But there are also buildings from the Pioneer era like the Palm Cottage now at Fort Dallas Park overlooking the Miami River. Other buildings include the Freedom Tower on Biscayne Blvd., the Alfred Dupont Building, The Old U.S. Postoffice and Courthouse, the Olympia Theater, and the Gesu Catholic Church, which dates back to the late 1800s. I love strolling through this area and watching how the old and new coincide, enjoying the modern treats in various cafes while learning about those who were here before. Concerts are still held at the Olympia Theater and the church is open for business too.

This place is always booming. Right now I have a bunch of friends living in Brickell. The price of real estate is unreal. It is fun to visit.

Downtown Miami is the more luxurious side of Greater Miami. The business district towers over numerous five star restaurants and night clubs that are always lively.

The Miami Lifestyle is purely distinctive. So much to do, so little time, however you can squeeze quite a bit in for a weekend getaway.

A prime location for people watching is the Mary Brickell Village area, parallel to the thriving Biscayne Blvd, Brickell offers trendy and chic array of fantastic restaurants with outdoor café seating, designer shopping, and cool bars, which becomes a ritzy spectacle at night, pulsating with the rhythm of culture and hard driving music. A Refreshing alternative to the overcrowded and overrated street clogged South Beach, Ocean Drive.

However Ocean Drive was another destination for a quick visit to the beach, which is topless by the way. The famed boulevard is lined with a multitude of art deco hotels fronted with hip eateries, such as the News Café, which was a frequent haunt of Versace and a bevy of top models. A return to Collins Ave on South Beach in the evening is the hot spot for dancing the night away to the sizzling and pulsating sounds of DJ’s imported from around the world. Almost all the night clubs, including LIV and the Cameo Club open until the wee hours of the morning, with most of the patrons drifting to a few local cafes open for early breakfast.

An awesome place that combines, entertainment, shopping and restaurants are Bayside Market, located on Biscayne Blvd. next to the marina at the Miami Port docks. This is a popular stop for cruise guests, as well as local visitors. Also not too far from the Fortune House Hotel is the wondrous Miami Seaquarium and ideal place to observe the exhibits and enjoy animal encounters with a multitude of sea animals including dolphins, killer whales and seals.

Downtown Miami pulsates with activity as commercial, cultural and leisure pursuits come together in the fastest growing area in Miami. Innovative skyscrapers compete for your attention, while historic shopping arcades and storefronts packed with merchandise evoke Miami's origins as a trading town.

Downtown Miami department stores and emporiums offer big city shopping with a cosmopolitan flair, while the area's diversity inspires dining delights in a variety of culinary styles. And of course, there are the amazing views from everywhere in Downtown.

Downtown Miami's collection of skyscrapers shares a view of Biscayne Bay that's worth a million bucks. Ride the free elevated Metromover through downtown and stop off at Bayside Marketplace for lunch and shopping. Make time to visit one of the downtown museums such as History Miami or the Miami Art Museum.

The Downtown Miami Area is made up of several parts; the Brickell area, a metropolitan residential community of tall buildings, hip bars and restaurants, and an internationally diverse group of residents; Omni, a blend of residential, commercial and hotels including the magnificent Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts; Park West, the Bicentennial Park area; and the Miami Jewelry District.

I like Downtown Miami as it is quite small with very interesting shaped buildings, perfectly cleaned and tidy streets, shining steel, glass and also nice restaurants and hotels. Another Miami, I would say.

Downtown has grown a lot over the past couple of years. It used to be a place just for 9-5'ers but now there are a lot of places to eat and hang out in the evening.
