place is safe, secure, has nice big rooms, a good bar and restaurant, a convenient news-stand and lots of cabs out front. Caille Londres (London) is in the middle of 6 square blocks of restaurats, nightclubs, outdoor cafes, boutiques and stores geared to tourists and visiting businessmen. There's even a great TGI Friday's on Blvd. Independencia in case you hanker for big drinks, Barbeque and Burgers. The concierge at the Calinda ca arrainge inexpensive tours for you and visits to museums, theaters, etc. This is MUCH safer than hailing a cab and a certified, uniformed driver and car only cost about 25$US for a half-day.

Hotel Geneve is a beautiful, grand 1907 hotel in the Zona Rosa, and it’s worth a stop just to check out the lobby, which includes interesting historical exhibits. The hotel is decorated in rich reds, golds and browns, with checkered floors. The library is full of comfy chairs and tall walls full of books reachable via a giant ladder, and the fun and plush red bar plays hits from the 60s and 70s. Geneve also boasts a terrace bistro with birds, a table-lined outdoor corridor that would make a nice place for a wedding, a gym with sauna and steam rooms, a business center with cubicles, an affordably priced spa, meeting rooms and free WiFi and parking for guests. That said, after all the grandeur downstairs, the rooms are disappointingly sparse, small and standard. The one I saw had a flat-screen TV, an ice bucket, mini bar, coffee maker, safe, iron, hair dryer and shower, but no decorative touches. Still, this would be a delightful place to stay if you plan to spend little time in your room.

I'm conflicted about how to feel about this place. Without its spectacular lobby and bar, it would most likely get two stars from me. The cramped, under-decorated rooms are, without a doubt, not the main attraction here. When you walk into the lobby, however, you feel like you're in a museum. Historical displays and artifacts are everywhere, and the hotel has multiple lists of celebrities -- including Winston Churchill and Evander Holyfield -- who have stayed there. I can only figure their rooms were nicer than the ones we saw. The lobby bar is another attraction, however. Called the Phone Bar, it's decorated with antique telephones, including a vintage London phone booth in the middle, and plays classic music by the Beatles and their contemporaries. If you're just looking for a place to sleep, the rooms are fine; they're well-equipped and clean. But they just don't measure up to the rest of this 106-year-old hotel.
