Located in the Roma neighborhood, Hostal 333 is a hipster hostal with stark but clean dorms and comfy private rooms, some with en suite bathrooms. There's WiFi, a decent-sized shared kitchen, plus a great rooftop patio where guests typically hang out. The rates are good too--$9-12.50 for dorms, $25-36 for private rooms. Best of all, it's just one block from Plaza Cibeles and four from Parque Mexico.

Great atmosphere, the terrace is really good and the Tapas bar on ground level is fun and has great food as well as a pool table, I met a lot of nice people and the showers are really good.

If you like a party atmosphere, Hostel 333 is for you. The clerk warns that the place gets noisy at night. On a Monday afternoon, it was peaceful enough, with the scent of incense wafting through the halls. Theo, a black cat with yellow eyes, greeted us and led us to the reception area. We needed the help because the reception area is at the top of the building, three floors up, in spite of a painted note directing guests to the second floor. The 36-guest hostel has three bunk-bed dorms, which share four bathrooms, a four-person dorm with its own bathroom and three private rooms, two of which have private bathrooms. Prices include WiFi throughout the hostel and cable TV in the private rooms, as well as two shared kitchens and coffee, tea and toast in the mornings. Guests congregate on the rooftop terrace, which has a large barbecue, hammocks and plenty of tables and chairs.

There are a lot of things to like about this hostel. The rooftop terrace is beautiful. The resident cat is friendly. A subway map is painted on the wall of one hallway. But it's also got dark, gloomy halls, a lot of stairs and small, crowded rooms. It's a fact of life that hostels can be crowded, but Hostel 333's rooms seem smaller than usual. And, considering all of them are mixed-sex rooms, that could be uncomfortable for some guests. While all ages are welcome in this hostel, located in the attractive Roma neighborhood, the manager warned that older guests might not be happy with the rowdy younger guests who tend to party loudly in the evenings here. The dormitories sleep four people or more in bunk beds, and guests in those rooms use shared bathrooms. The hostel also has a few private rooms with their own bathrooms for two to three people.
