a lost age. Considered one of the city's most popular and important tourist attractions and historic landmarks, the Remparts do not reside in one building or park, instead wrapping twelve miles around the Medina, encompassing nearly the entire old city and containing nineteen famous gates, archaeological attractions all their own. Short tours and sightseeing rides offered by local merchants run daily.

Symbol of the ocher city, the ramparts, whose construction began in 1126 at the initiative of the ruler Ali Ben Youssef, today surround the ancient city: the medina. Their construction will extend over several decades until the mud wall of clay and lime reaches more than 10 km. It will be punctuated by 202 square towers and pierced by 10 prestigious doors allowing access to the city. Crowned with a walkway, the wall 8 to 10 meters high served as protection against enemy attacks.
It is proposed to you to discover the ramparts a carriage ride which lasts 4 hours, including some small displacements on foot. The itinerary starts at Liberty Square, west of the medina.

The dividing line between the Medina and the Ville Nouvelle. A helpful anchor for navigating but the real thrill is the old Medina they surround.

The ramparts of Marrakech will make you feel like you've stepped into a TinTin adventure - the setting is that exotic, that evocative. If you've ever fantasized about the Islamic world (or seen Aladdin) the ramparts of Marrakech were your avatar.

I would recommend a horse and carriage ride around the exterior of the City Walls. It is quite inexpensive, and gives you a chance to get around the whole perimeter, it is also a lot cooler than walking in the Moroccan sun.

The walls are up to 9m/30ft high and form a circuit of 10km, punctuated by around 200 towers and 20 gates.

A nice walk to take when in need of a break from the organized chaos of the medina! I was constantly in awe and wondering how its the remparts have managed to stay intact for so long!

Le Mura che separano la Medina dalla città nuova sono lunghe 10km e risalgono al 1.100. Costruite con un miscuglio di fango e terra, di tipico colore rosso, sono parte integrante del fascino di questa città, definita la porta del deserto.
