Breathtaking falls and wonderful place to see the rock formations of Devils Postpile.

Local from Mammoth Lakes

Drive up to the main mountain and take the shuttle down to Devils Postpile for excellent hiking, including the short hike to rainbow falls.

While not a strenuous hike, and having it the trail meander through where a major forest fire had been a few years ago, this is an absolutely awesome hike. But its an even better destination.

Some of the basics for this destination are as follows:
* You either need to camp down in the Valley or stay at the pack station or you will need to ride the bus down, unless you want to pay exorbitant amounts of cash to drive your personal vehicle down to the few spaces that exist.
* Wear at least tennis shoes, I suggest hiking boots/shoes, but at least wear tennis shoes. I saw two people with flip flops so it can be done, but one of them had a wicked looking cut on her foot =\
* Pack out what you pack in
* Bring a camera and a towel (there is nothing like a frigid dip on an 80-90 degree day
* Bring a snack, you will likely need one

Ok... this is one of the most beautiful waterfalls that I have ever been to. I absolutely love and adore it. I cant more highly suggest a summer activity in Mammoth than to go cruise down the trail to get to this place.

The rainbows when they are present are glorious and constant. The spray from the falls definitely creates them in absolute glory.

The overlook is a steep stair climb from the bottom, but this is a doable climb and hike even for the out of shape and the ever elusive non hiker. Be prepared to run into a number of Europeans here. I was stunned at how many were here when I was last here during the summer of '14. It was literally 3 out of every 4 people that I spoke to were from Europe.

My daughter was thrilled with this hike and made it without issue at 7 yrs old. She was unbelievably excited to see the falls. They are the biggest that she has seen in person and she was absolutely astounded at how gorgeous they were. Let alone the thunder that they emitted.

I cant more highly suggest a place to visit in Mammoth than here. So if its open when you are there, get yo azz down there and become entranced with the beauty of it all! Natural beauty like this is rare indeed and well worth the cost of a ride down the hill and a few hours of your time.

Worth the hike in the summer. You can start from Devil's postpile and then hike to the Falls. They have buses that will also take you closer to these beautiful sights. This areas closes in Fall, so best to plan your trip before the first snowfall.

Take the bus from the Mammoth Mountain Wilderness Center to the trail head for Devil's Postpile and Rainbow Falls. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen and bug spray. Its a fairly easy hike. Watch for deer in the meadows!

The falls in the trail that make it worth the 2.5 mile walk from the trailhead. Wonderful view with 2 viewpoints and another view from the bottom after the stairs...
