Great for fishing and hiking. The hiking trail around the lake is one mile long. The water is so clear you can easily see 30 feet deep. This is one of the deepest lakes in the region. You can rent a boat at the marina. Fishing season runs the last Saturday in April through November 15.

Gorgeous alpine lake...definitely worth a stop. It is popular for fishing in summer but still worth a stop in the winter for the breathtaking scenery

A wonderful and peaceful place to visit. You can jog, walk, hike, fish. They have a great restaurant at Convict Lake. Make sure it is opened during your visit.

Lovely in the summer, extraordinary in the winter. The restaurant here is also a real treat.

This is one of our absolute favorite hiking spots. And try the restaurant on the way back for the topping to a great day

This place is a postcard waiting to happen... Seriously its beyond gorgeous. To put it simply all this lake is, is a body of clear ice cold water below looming mountains on three sides with massive boulders around the edge of most of the water. There view is just breathtaking.

Pro Tip: Come here to fish and for world class dining. Seriously there is a super high end restaurant that you can wear jeans to here ;)

However the best reason to come here is simply to have your breathe stolen by the gorgeousness of it. It is definitely without a doubt one of the most gorgeous places that I have ever been to.

If you don't know the story of how the lake got its name it is kind of interesting. It was due to a bunch of escaped inmates from Nevada ambushing a posse in 1871. They were able to escape after killing a couple of the posse members. They were later apprehended elsewhere. But they had holed up at Convict Lake for a bit, thus it gots its name.

I highly suggest you check this place out sometime if you are in the Mammoth area, be it summer sping winter or fall its always gorgeous. ;)

This is one of the Mammoth area's hidden gems. Just off 395, you have to be alert to the turn-off. The clear, blue waters of Convict Lake reflect the steep, rocky mountains that partially surround it. There are camp grounds and cabins available for those who wish to avoid the Mammoth hubbub.

An easy walk/hike around this spectacular lake. If you look carefully, you might just spot a bald eagle!

A beautiful lake with a fascinating history just across from the Mammoth airport. Nice campgrounds, a lodge, boating, fishing and a great trail around the lake for hikers. My half sister is getting married there next summer!

I loved kayaking here. You can take a dip but it's cold! The trees are beautiful and there is a nice hike around the lake. Bring your dog. Have a picnic.
