I love a lively atmosphere and this is it. This is the main boulevard through Madrid. It's perfect for a stroll.

A pretty enjoyable version of every big city's shopping thoroughfare. I bought a bathing suit here for 7$ three years ago and still wear it every time I swim. For that reason alone, this place holds a solid place in my memory.

The Gran Via in Madrid is the commercial center of the city. It's located just north of the very center of Spain, the Puerto del Sol, and it joins Plaza de Espana with Plaze Cibeles.

Gran Via is a main road that runs through some of the more popular areas of the city. It's well lit and very busy.

A street that's always buzzing and where sleep is not an option. The Madrilenian's favourite place to be. Songs, poems, novels and even zarzuelas have been devoted to it. Even though it's about to turn one hundred, it doesn't look it! It's such a vital place that the passing of time seems to have no effect on this avenue.
On Gran Vía, Museo Chicote is a must. Hemingway, Frank Sinatra or Ava Gardner partied the night away as they sipped their cocktails. It's still a hotspot, frequented by glamorous stars of our times, like Javier Bardem or Pedro Almodóvar,

Truly an amazing street. Some aspects remind me of Broadway in New York City or Younge Street in Toronto, but the individual boutique stores that sell things from hand fans with beautiful illustrations to inexpensive leather messenger bags differentiate Gran Via from both streets and add authenticity to Gran Via.

This street or Grand Way is an ornate and upscale shopping street located in central Madrid. It leads from Calle de Alcalá, close to Plaza de Cibeles, to Plaza de España. Really liked walking down it the architecture is amazing. You want shopping this is your place.

One of Madrid's main boulevards, it is a bit like Paris's Champs Elysees, in that it was a part of a major urbanization project forced from a centralized government. It is nice for window shopping as there are a bunch of shops along the avenue

It is one of the biggest streets in Madrid, connecting Calle de Alcalà to Plaza de Espana. the buidlings along it are really imponent and represent sevral different architecture styles, such as Art Decò and Vienna Secession Style. Once upon a time there were many theaters along it, the most part of which has now been replaced by malls.

Convenient location and lots of shops but nothing spectacular. Easy connections via the subway for seeing the main sights but not a lot of night time activity.

Great shopping area. Fun to explore and snack on some great food along the way. We started at one end and worked our way down to the other. A great way to spend an afternoon.

Gran Via is a great place to wander around and see the sights and people. It has great shopping available at almost every turn. I really liked it during Christmas time. You can find fun events, food stands, and lights all over.

It might be a little weird to be in love with a street but oh well, it's the truth. With beautiful buildings such as the Metropolis and the Rolex, once you see it you just might fall in love as well. Gran Via literally means "great way" or "great street" and that about sums it up. This central road runs from West to East and serves as a marker and dividing line for much of the entire downtown. Major destinations like Plaza de Espana can be found by walking along Gran Via to the West and La plaza de independencia (and the northern entrance to Retiro Park) can be found by walking along Gran Via to the East.
