This hotel is pure eye candy. From the leafy winding street it's located on, just a few steps from the Opera House and the Opera metro station, to its very mod and funky black white and red lobby, to its sleek rooms with striking silhouettes painted over the headboards, it's a delight to behold. The color scheme it employs is perfect - its warm and classic peach facade gently leads way to a lobby with a disco ball and it all just gets funkier from there.

The hotel disappointingly doesn't have a rooftop terrace, but the view I had from even a first floor room was charming enough to compensate. I was completely bewitched by the fact that the toiletries provided (Room Mate Brand) contained Wasabi, and the roomy minimalist bathroom seemed like a perfect place to take them for a spin. Staff was charming, the guests exhibited a degree of "cool" higher than what experiences in most hotels, and the area is perfect for exploring Madrid's Royal Palace which is just moments away. Though close to all of the major sites, it's set just far enough out of the nucleus of the touristy areas of Madrid to feel more residential and real. As an added perk, breakfast goes until noon!

The Room Mate brand is known for offering fun, creatively decorated spaces that are budget friendly. In that department, this hotel doesn’t disappoint, not in the least. Rooms are a decent size. They could be bigger, but who really wants to spend all their time cooped up in their room anyway? The lounge and common areas are a perfect place to mix and mingle with other travelers, maybe make a new friend. You never really know. As an aside, the use of orange is a added plus. Warm colors are known to make people happy. It made me happy. I’m still happy just thinking about this hotel, actually.

I really love the Room Mate hotels in Madrid. This one in particular is really funky and perfect for anyone who loves interior design, or appreciates quirky styles!
The reception area was dark and cool when I got there, which was a relief from the heat outside! The receptionist was lovely and took me straight up to the room. The rooms are spacious and the designs definitely aren't for the faint of heart!
There are interior and exterior rooms, and since the hotel is located on a quiet street, even the exterior rooms are perfect for a good night's sleep!

Very clean and friendly mini boutique hotel close to the city centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. We stayed there for my birthday and came back to find that they had left a mini bottle of Cava for me.

This hotel is part of a chain of Design hotels in Spain that are really cheap and comfortable. Staff was very nice with us, as the room in Room Mate Laura has some problems they gave us a bigger on in Room Mate Mario. two aplles for welcome and a very well furnished room, in the very centre of Madrid.

Stepping from the old narrow Madrid street into the low light, funky fixtures and jazzy beats of the Room Mate Mario lobby was an unexpected transition. My first thought (especially given the hotel’s name) was: pretentious. Oh how wrong I was. The decor may be modern and hip, but there’s nothing affected about the service. The young staff were friendly, spoke great English and seemed ready to bend over backwards. The room was simple, but nicely done - white was the predominant colour, meaning the space felt large, sophisticated and luminous. Apparently each room has its own “look” - mine featured an artsy (and actually quite pleasing) mural of plants and flowers across the wall behind the bed. The location is ideal - Mario is five minutes from Puerta del Sol and the street itself is pretty much bar-less (i.e. quiet at night). There’s no room service, but they do sell reasonably priced salads and wraps from reception if you get caught short. A little tip: if you want a bathtub to soak in, make sure you ask - not all bathrooms have them.
