Cartagena

This hotel is located right on the infamous Calle Montera - known for it's abundance of ladies who work in the world's oldest profession. By day, by night, you'll see them on the street, whistling and sometimes rather aggressively calling out to prospective customers. Arriving at the Hotel Praktik, I wondered if any of the on street action makes its way upstairs, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

On the first floor of a building with three other hotels in it, The Hotel Praktik is a little gem. The lobby doubles as a lounge and cafe, where guests can observe all of the activity that goes on down below (Calle Montera is right off Gran Via, so it is also very commercial and loaded with cafes and bars), use one of the free computers, or enjoy free refreshments (coffee, tea) in the small cafe area. Outfitted a bit like an old library, the space is very welcoming, with large burgundy, blue, and forest green arm chairs with cheerful yellow accents.

In nicer weather, the hotel's 9th floor terrace is absolutely not to be missed! One of the finest and most panoramic that I've seen, it has two levels, joined by a spiral staircase. Both levels have sun loungers and despite all the hustle and bustle down below, they are incredibly peaceful! (And happen to be the sunny spot I chose to write this review from).

I wasn't able to make it into a room, as the hotel was booked solid, but by the face of things - and if even only for the terrace - would very happily stay here in the future. As a bonus, the metro station is just moments away and all of the neighboring restaurants and bars (including one that offers 0,40 cent beers) stay open until the wee hours, so you'll never be pressed for food, transportation, or entertainment. The area may get a bit dodgy at night, but just being mindful of your surroundings should keep you safe.

Local from Madrid

Many an iconic Madrid photo is taken in the area this hotel calls home. And in my opinion, the location is great for one other thing: people-watching. An endless stream of people walk down this street on any given day and if you sit in the restaurant hotel, which gives a perfect view of the street hotel, you could sit there for hours entertained, even late into the night as locals and tourists alike enjoy the nightlife. That’s what I did anyway and it made for a fun-filled afternoon full of laughter. Great hotel for adventure travelers or those who want close proximity to shopping and all the sights to see in Madrid.

Local from Madrid

I fell in love with this hotel as soon as I walked up the stairs and saw the reception area. The hotel has a brilliant location on Calle Montera which is great for people-watching! The hotel has a beautiful open space with coffee facilities and places to sit and relax for its guests. The only problem is that it's not open to non-residents! I loved the selection of magazines that they had for you to browse through.
The decor is warm and friendly but not cluttered, and you could sit in the windows for hours just watching the world go by.
The room that I was in was a little bit small but unless you're planning on spending a lot of time in the room, that's not a problem! The decor of the corridors and rooms is really funky and perfect for art and design lovers. The terrace was fabulous as well, perfect for catching some rays if you're there on a good day! It's on the 9th floor so it's got great views of the city.

Praktik Metropol is a very chic boutique hotel located in the very center of Madrid, in the magnificent Gran Via Avenue and just 5min away from Sol. The rooms are bright, functional and extremely cosy! There is free wifi and there are designer details in every single corner of the hotel! You fall in love with the hotel the minute you arrive to it. Breakfasts are being served for just one euro: 1 nespresso coffee + a wonderful donut! Dont miss the terrace at the top floor - the views from there are spectacular!
