I visited this 3-star hotel just after visiting its sister hotel, the High Tech Petit Palace Mayor, and was mystified as to why the latter had four stars. I would say that the Arenal is actually a step above its higher starred sister, given its more elegant lobby (many of the building's 18th century features have been nicely preserved) and the sheer size of the room I saw. It was massive! So large that it had its own exercise bike in the literally walk right into it as soon as you open the door. My favorite part of the room was the balcony that looked down upon the very picturesque Calle Arenal below, though I was also very impressed by the striking prints of "toreadores" (bullfighters) hanging on the walls. The decor was modern, with a nice selection of colorful bonbons as a turndown treat, and in proportion with the rest of the room, the bathroom was huge, with a hydromassage shower that looked like a time-machine.

Like its sister, this hotel has no common spaces other than a breakfast room and a small computer nook. In terms of value, design, and location, they're both quite on par so it's probably just wise to go with the best deal!

It's a great hotel in the center of Madrid; it is near at the most interesting attractions of Madrid. The breakfast is good and the rooms are essential, but they are big and clean.

The Petit standard for sure shines through in this hotel property, quite near the city center.

The High Tech Petit Palace Arenal is the perfect spot for family visits to Madrid. The sextuplet rooms are fantastic, with a comfy bed for mums and dads, and bunkbeds for up to 4 kids. The location means you don't have to worry about grabbing public transport anywhere, the hotel is right off Sol. The rooms are bright and colourful and the kids will love them! There's even free gifts for the kids including teddy bears, lollipops and complimentary use of pushchairs, baby cots, DVDs and free bike rental! Each of the rooms have laptops and free WiFi.
The hotel is LGBT friendly and also great for business travellers since you can use their meeting rooms.

Truth be told, at first I wasn’t head over heels about this place. Owing to the very old (albeit very beautiful) building, it all felt a bit cramped. The lobby is a squeeze, and the interior-facing room was also on the tight side. And the decor felt like it needed a reboot. But what saves the day is the location. Having Calle del Arenal on your doorstep is what a holiday in Madrid should be all about. The iconic pedestrian-only street is teeming with Spanish life - a steady stream of buskers, performance artists and shoppers. And the hotel is just moments by foot from all the major sites. Just a word of warning, if you request an exterior room (or a hi-tech room with a laptop for that matter), the hotel can’t confirm you’ll get it until the day of your arrival (nor can you pay more to secure it, the different room configurations cost the same). So, if you’re willing to chance your arm on the kind of room you’ll end up with, and what you’re after is a not-expensive, not-expansive but phenomenally-located hotel, then look no further. A little tip: Be sure to drink a glass of vermouth at Taberna Real, just down on the corner by Ópera. It’s an age-old Madrilenian tavern with classically curt and efficient waiters and great local dishes. And, though it’s popular with the tourists, plenty of true-blue Spaniards are also regulars. Almost forgot - the other saving grace here is the massage shower in the bathrooms - it’s akin to standing in a car wash! (...that’s a good thing).

Newport Beach

This hotel couldn't be better located. It's at ground zero for all Madrileno activities, as it it literally in the puerta del sol. Its not too far from the museums and its walking distance from the plaza mayor.
