Hello bathroom of my dreams! Though this 5 star boutique hotel located in the high-end shopping district of Serrano has many redeeming qualities, I feel impelled to start with the magnificent bathroom offered by its junior suite. Nearly as big the suite's bedroom area, it was as grand as the Hall of Mirrors, but a splash more modern. Its centerpiece was definitely the white free-standing claw bathtub with fixtures so elaborate, for a second I thought the tub was equipped with its own magnificently old-school gleaming silver rotary phone. Two identical sinks and a separate shower/WC/bidet area were off to the right of the glorious tub.

The hotel has no pool or wellness center, but honestly, with a bathroom like the one I saw, no other amenities are needed. The overall feeling of the hotel is very boutique and almost family oriented - the staff appeared to convey a familiarity and friendliness with their guests that I found quite special. The lobby is very elegant and offers a complete five-star experience with bell boys in red and black tails. The hotel's bistro, Nimu, which also has an elegant terrace (think black and white striped tablecloths) was hopping at lunchtime and intrigued me enough to consider a return visit. The adjoining bar, though very tiny, seems like the perfect place for a boozy tête-à-tête.

Local from Madrid

There is very little that the Salamanca barrio doesn’t do well, and for me, I love coming to this side of Madrid not only to spend a couple hours in Retiro (especially now since the bitter winter is over and sunny skies are up ahead) either strolling through the park or trying to brush up on my Spanish at the library on-site, but also because of the posh, regal Spanish charm. This hotel fits right in with that ideal as the hotel is top-of-line in amenities and visceral appeal once you’re inside the lobby. Gold-flecked tile, an ornate vase with a huge plant on a warm oak table queue you in that the details are important here. And hey, that’s a plus right? Because who wants to have to think about every, little thing when you’re on vacation?

I really loved everything about Adler Hotel. When I arrived it was quite cold outside but the heating was on in the reception so I warmed up straight away! The staff were fantastic and I loved their uniforms, really smart three-piece suits.
I fell in love with the lounge and the seating outside the bedroom that I was in. It was like something from a little castle! The bedroom was huge for a standard one, and the bed was absolutely divine!
The hotel is in a great location, just a short metro ride away from everywhere but just out of the very centre of the city so you don’t have to deal with all of the noise. There wasn’t a sound in the bedroom, just perfect for a relaxing getaway!

Chatting to the guy behind the desk, he told us the building used to be a palace. That totally figures - there’s something definitely regal going on at the Adler. It’s sumptuous and was recently re-decorated by a famous Spanish designer (the black and white checked marble floors in the lobby are a stroke of genius). Having said all that, it's not at all formal or stuffy. The tall gentleman (in waistcoat and tails, no less) who greeted us on arrival was warm and friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was spacious and felt more like a luxurious small apartment. If you go for a street-facing room, ask for one on the corner of the building - it’s got a wall of windows and the light pours in. I love that they don’t do a breakfast buffet, but take your order from a menu. I’d much prefer an omelette made to order than an hour-old sausage. And try the torrijas - they’re like French toast, but Spanish...and better. I didn’t eat in the restaurant, but noticed they were doing a seasonal celebration of “hunting and mushrooms” - dishes like deer meatballs and wild mushroom stew. I sorely regret not pulling up a chair...

San Gabriel

Simply a wonderful place to stay. The staff was extremely friendly, and helpful. Also the rooms were spacious as well as the bathrooms.

The location was also easy to get to and easy to get around without necessarily being in the middle of it all.
