Super cute restaurant nestled between the trees right before the Griffith Observatory hiking trail with delicious sandwiches and pastries!

Every time I come to do the Griffith Observatory hike I find myself dropping by afterwards for a bite to eat after my workout. There's always a line down the stairs and for good reason! The food here is fresh and really healthy. There's not much for meat options with the exception of the Snakedog ($5 - all beef frank wrapped in puff pastry with side of fresh fruit ). I usually get the Avocado sandwich ($8.50 - avocados, tomatoes, red onions, soy "bacon bits", alfalfa sprouts, cheddar cheese, mayo) and that's enough for two to share for a light lunch. For those who love dessert, the pies are also really good. So for a quiet picnic at the park or an after workout meal you can count on Trails for a tasty bite to eat!

The Trails has fresh food, vegan and vegetarian options, lots of seating (first come first serve), really delicious pies, tasty sandwiches and high quality coffee. The only con is that the wait can get really long on weekends, especially weekends with awesome weather.

One thing to know that this is super casual so you order and pick up at the counter. You also have to find your own seats. All outdoor seating.

If you happen to be hiking @ Griffith Park, here is a place that offers healthier/vegan food. One of their popular sandwich is the Avocado sandwich - tons of avocado/bean sprouts/tomato/tofu bacon bits on wheat bread.
Sorry I prefer my bacon from piggies. Not tofu.
Too much avocado for my taste.

Tried their vegan chili- decent. a little bit of spicy kick.
The side of blue corn corn bread. Yummy. But I like corn bread. Even if the color is blue.

The wait was pretty long. Before we started our hike. the line was pretty long.
After our hike, while starving, the line was just as long.
Might have been from the recent defrosting of LA. The 30-40 degree weather left us with warm 70-80 Ca sun.

Sad part was no more apple pie. grrrrrrr maybe next time. maybe next time.

I'd been wanting to try Trails ever since the day my gym partner had us running "hills" outdoors - we were creepin' up the hillside towards the Observatory and at the speed I was going I was able to get a nice clear view of this place. It looked like the perfect little place to stop for lunch but that sure as heck wasn't gonna happen so I looked it up and Yelp and made a promise to myself to check it out on another day.

It did not disappoint. I brought my son here for lunch on a Sunday and the line was pretty long and moved pretty slowly.

I had the avocado sandwich and it was soooooooo good! The bread, the avocado, the sprouts, the bacon bits, every last bite. We both had strawberry lemonades and my son had the grilled cheese.

This is the perfect little place nestled away in Griffith Park to grab a bite to eat at.

I know if my younger sister were with us she would have surely described the crowd as "hipster" - the day I ran by it (a week day) I vaguely recall seeing a bunch of kids - maybe all the stay at home Moms take the kids here during the week, not too sure

Nonetheless, hipster or not - I enjoyed it. If you are planning on spending the day out on the lawn catching some rays or taking in a nice hike in Griffith I would surely add this to your list.

I think I'll have to bring my step dad here and tell my brother about this place - seems like the sort of place both of them would really like.

This hidden gem in Griffith Park has the most scrumptious baked goods! Pecan, apple or cherry pie, apricot scones, lavender vanilla cookies, mushroom cashew pie, quiches, plus the Avocado Sandwich with crunchy soy bacon bits are all incredible. Get there early before go-to items like the waffles with strawberries are sold out! And it's all about the atmosphere too. Tucked away in the park, you get to nom among the trees and trails. Very affordable and nice big portions! Share a sandwich and a pie!

If you haven't discovered this cute place near Griffith Observatory + Park... you should make it a point to check it out soon! Park your car near The Trails off Fern Dell then start your hike. Check out the Observatory, lounge on the grass, and take tons of pics. Wonderful views on clear sunny days! Head back down and enjoy yummy food... picnic style! Make a day out of it! Oh, this place is cash only!
