Description
One of the good things about being the reigning imperialist world power for hundreds of years is that your country's main museum is going to seriously rock. In the heart of London, artifacts from ... Read more
every civilization known to man are on display at this storehouse of human culture. A seasoned museum-goer would be hard-pressed to think of a bigger, more comprehensive museum anywhere in the world. The place has a collection of seven million objects, only a fraction of which are on display at any one time ... but what a fraction. Imagine actually seeing the Rosetta Stone -- without which we may have never deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphics -- or well-preserved statues from the Greek Parthenon, in real life. Best of all, a visit here is absolutely free, to everyone, anytime.

Absolutely stunning collection including the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian artifacts and other treasures. If you are in London, it’s a must-see, every time.

An amazing collection of exhibits housed in an astonishing building. The effect of the roof is lost from the outside, but inside it’s just breathtaking.

Amazing architecture and impressive exhibits. We spent a couple of hours here on a cold Sunday afternoon and there was plenty to see. It’s also free to get in. Only downside was the grumpy shouty bag searching staff.

I would highly recommend paying a visit to the British museum! It’s free, first of all, and second has some really great exhibitions. Just spend a day going to the different museums because they’re free & you learn a lot!

We had a wonderful visit here. The Rosetta Stone alone was worth the visit. Our family was most interested in the Greek section and the Elgin Marbles. We also visited the extensive Egyptian exhibit. We did not have time to do more, but will gladly revisit the museum on our next visit to London. This museum does not charge to enter, but asked for donations instead.

Fantastically large and extensive museum with artefacts from every corner of the globe and made even better by being completely free (donations welcome of course). This place can get really busy, especially the world-renowned Egyptian exhibits so try to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Built in the late 19th Century, the picturesque British Museum is a neoclassical treasure that houses one of the wealthiest, largest, and most diverse collections of objects encompassing the history of all global cultures. Ancient Egyptian artifacts such as the Rosetta and Mummies, and Greek antiquities such as the Parthenon sculptures are the highlight of the museum. That said, the British Museum is one of the most spectacular sights to explore in London.

Just Go!! You'll not be disappointed in this museum. Even if you have only 10 minutes to spare walk in and see the building. The Egyptian area is the most popular and famous, and you can see why, but we love the library and the Asian area. Actually we love it all. We have been many times and we are sure we have not seen it all. It is huge, and an added bonus- it's Free!
