earthquake. It is a favorite attraction for tourists because of its incredible views of the beautiful surrounding city. There is a statue of King Afonso Henriques, who expelled the Moors and kings of Portugal, at the main gate. Peaceful and quiet, explore the remnants, its cannons and the remains of the Alcaçovas Palace, which housed Medieval kings. There is even a modern restaurant and museum.

Sao George castle is a moorish style castle overlooking a beautiful and historic view of the city of Lisbon. A must see for castle, history, and museum lovers.

Century X-XI, conquered by D. Afonso Henriques, first King of Portugal, to the Moors in 1147.
It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the city, located in Alfama. Access is by foot, by tram 28, or by tuk-tuk or tour buses.

This Lisbon landmark is a must-see. The castle itself is interesting but the surrounding neighborhood and views are equally impressive. The most touristed of the areas we visited.

Sitting on the highest hill overlooking the Tagus River and perched to guard the city of Lisbon, is the remains and grounds of the Moorish castle turned Catholic citadel dating back to mid-11th century. Impressive views of the city and the towers make an impressive backdrop. Cafe, complete with wandering peacocks on site, or grab a glass of wine while strolling along admiring the view.

Great castle in the very centre of Lisbon with some good exhibits and artefacts. Be careful when climbing up the narrow steps to the walls as there is not much room if you meet someone coming the other way.

Overlooking the city, the castle provides stunning views of Lisbon and the tejo river. It's in fairly good shape with ability to walking of its ramparts. Not a lot to see in the castle itself but fun to explore the archeological sites and walk around.

While the castle itself is fascinating, it's the views over the city that really take your breath away.

Lisbon has a number of hills and this one where Castle St. George is is the highest. Take the funicular up and then walk up to the entrance. The castle has been renovated and there is access to areas without the typical restraints. The views are the best in Lisbon and walking back you get to see the narrow streets and alleys up close.

The castle is rather elusive on foot as one has to navigate through many winding streets with 'secret' stairways while looking out for signs posting to Castelo de S. Jorge. More easily accessed by tram or by bus, on which one can truly appreciate the adept driving skills of Portuguese bus drivers. The castle itself affords a panoramic view of the entire Lisbon with a fairly steep fee. We opt out to go inside the castle as there are many viewpoints in Portugal equally stunning and free, but had quite a blast navigating our way along the local area up to the castle.

Great view over the city, which shows the combination of old town and new buildings perfectly!

Ramparts are a bit narrow in places with low walls so don't go up if you are afraid of heights/have poor spacial awareness or sense of balance! Definitely recommend the camera obscura (free) for an informed, quick tour of the city from inside the Tower of Ulisses.

Wonderful and historic castle, this place remind you in med-eval time with amazing city view. However there's lack of tour guide and information which would make it better. Regardless this is must visit place when you in Lisboa. Great view and historic , how cool that you tell you friend that you been to a real castle.
