Opaekaa Falls is another area that is easy access. Just a short drive once you get to Kapaa. So refreshing to view all that splashing water!!

Beautiful shot of the falls! Right across the road is the Wailua river. Just watch out for oncoming traffic before you cross. Lots of parking.

Easy to get to overlook of spectacular waterfalls. Just a couple of minutes away from the condo on Kuamo'o Road. This road has seven sacred spots on it and climbs the side of Nonou Mountain (the Sleeping Giant), in between two lovely rivers. Gorgeous lookout points along the road.

If you take Kuamo'o Road almost to the end, you will be at "The Arboretum", a beautiful forested area where you can stop and picnic and perhaps splash in the river. Once you pass this spot, the road deteriorates, but if you have a 4-wheel drive, it's pretty great to keep going on it.

Beautiful view of the falls. Traffic was heavy getting there but scenery was well worth it. Cannot capture the beauty in a photo!

It is a bit far from the scenic view but worth it to go see it. Be sure to cross the street to go to the other side of the road to check out the Wailua canyon and Wailua River.

Right across from the "Hawaiian Village" On the road great parking and somewhat distant view of the Falls and spectacular view of the Wailua River Valley. Like to Kayak the Wailua? Get your Kayak at the village and cut the paddling in half. Makes it a guick trip to the secret falls and headwaters!

Getting to these falls is a short drive and it's fairly easy to get to. Another easy Kauai spot to check off your to do list, though it's not as impressive as some of the other falls on the island that I have reviewed.

Local from Kapaa

Located off the north branch of the Wailua River, this fall is not accessible by river or trail. An overlook, however, off Kuamo'o Road provides an excellent and safe viewing area. The falls flow year-round, unlike many waterfalls on the island that are dependent on heavy rains. The best viewing time for these lacy falls is mid-morning when the sun is in the proper position for photographing this picture-perfect site. The name dates back from days when shrimp swarmed the river and were seen rolling in the turbulent waters at the base of the falls.

Directions:
Take Highway 56 north from Lihu'e toward Wailua. After crossing the Wailua Bridge, turn left on Kuamo'o Road at Mile Marker #6. Follow the road approximately 1 1/2 miles to the 'Opaeka'a Falls Lookout.

Useful Information:
Not accessible by river or trail
Great view of falls from the "Opaeka'a Falls Lookout off Kuamo'o Road

Another great waterfall. 40 minutes, or so, from Princeville. Visible from the lookout on the road. Only flows after rainfall up high.

Opaekee Falls is a great place to stop. The falls are quite beautiful and the car park is right off the main road.
