I found this to be one of the highlights whilst I was in Germany, and I wasn't expecting it to be either. It seemed very convenient after visiting the Battle of the Nations memorial, that the theme was of just this. The Leipzig panometer used to be world famous and even did tours around the world (definitely in London and Paris anyways!). The panometer is a 360 degree picture that is viewed best when standing at the top of a tower in the centre of the room. I found with the day and night changing and the sound effects, it was very easy to just gaze off into the distant. When viewed just right, the picture even appears 3D as if you are actually there and it becomes very realistic. I was very impressed with how it was all put together, so well done!

This is hard to explain, but basically it is one huge round room where the artist has reconstructed a 360 degree visual representation of a certain place. There are three of these running in Germany: Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin. I saw the one in Leipzig on Everest. At first, it was kind of lame, but the longer your eyes adjust, the more you start eerily feeling like you're there. Once climbing up the second floor to see from a different perspective, I realized they were changing the lighting to show the difference between day and night. I was stunning. They also do ones on the Amazon rainforest, ancient Rome in AD312 and historic Dresden.
