Las Vegas earned its nickname as Sin City with good reason: it's known most for grandiose casinos and hotels, vibrant (and often, um, colorful) entertainment, and the old adage, "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." Finding the best things to do among the myriad of attractions in Vegas can seem like a tall order, ... Read more
but a little advice can go a long way. During the day, stick to the hotel pools and lying out under the desert sun. Pools here can range from the simple to the extravagant; you only need to see Mandalay Bay's surf and beach simulation to know what I mean. Head out to Fremont for a taste of kitschy "old Vegas" (with plenty of Elvis), and be sure to save your energy for the night, which is when the real party begins. Many hotels offer some sort of all-you-can-eat buffet - the most popular being Paris' Le Village Buffet, The Rio's Carnival World Buffet, or Caesar's Palace's Bacchanal Buffet. They're no shortage of five-star restaurants and world-renowned chefs in town. After dinner, check out the Bellagio’s fountain show, a spectacular sight at night, before heading out to one of the many nightclubs or entertainment shows. Recent acts in town have included the world famous Cirque du Soleil and the eclectic Blue Man Group. If you're feeling over-stimulated, you can head out of the city for a break in nature: the Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon Preserve, and Hoover Dam are easy day trips away. Oh, yeah, and you can gamble in Vegas, too. But you already knew that.

When to go

Summer in Vegas, when temperatures regularly top 100F (38C), comes with a warning: limit your time outdoors. This is typically not hard to adhere to, given that much of what Sin City is known for takes place in ... Read more
air-conditioned spaces. With that said, the summer heat isn’t too bad if you want to spend some time at a rooftop pool because the humidity is very low. If the triple-digit temperatures don’t scare you off, this is also a great time to get low season rates. The rest of the year ranges from cool to warm, and there are plenty of good deals to be had if you avoid major conventions and holidays.

Las Vegas is gawdy and loud, but there is something about it that is just Americana at it's best! For gamblers or foodies, it's an excellent destination.

My favorite spot to vacation in the US. Love the casinos and clubs, the shopping, the food, and slot machines especially. Vegas is my adult playground.

Do you love gambling, drinking, concerts, musicals, dancing and to burn cash, Las Vegas is the 'sin' not to live without.

While a place that may not be for everyone, this city is no longer an adult playground. From great amusement parks and shows to restaurants and art, Las Vegas has truly expanded it's attractions to all.

Lots to do and see in the biggest little city! Food finds are great so you have to try it all and go to several casinos even if you are not a big gambler. Rooftop bars are the place that be at night to get a view of the city or take a helicopter ride if you are adventurous.

Vegas is an interesting place to visit- once. If, like me, you neither drink nor gamble, The Strip is still a fascinating place to see. We took a Big Bus night tour of the Strip, took in 2 shows and took a tour to Hoover Dam. All in all, it was a fun two days three nights. We probably won't go back unless we decide to go there for more shows. Oh, and the Fremont Experience (included in the bus tour) is a one time wild show. I need to add that everyone we met in Las Vegas who waited on us or served us in some way was very pleasant and helpful.
