This waterfront town between Bairnsdale and Orbost is a popular holiday destination, especially for its water-related activities. art gallery, and several parks with walking trails. The town is so named because it sits at, you guessed it, the entrance to the Gippsland Lakes.

The name alone conjures up images of something dramatic but we were underwhelmed by this tourist resort and fishing town in southern Victoria. If you're doing the drive from Melbourne to Sydney in either direction, this can be a good spot to stop for something to eat. If you're looking for somewhere to stay, my suggestion would be to head nearer to the state line. Still, we loved the pelicans here.
