The Kinabalu Yacht Club

Located right on the Tanjung Aru beach, it has the same views as the Shangri-la on the point, but drinks are like a quarter of the price, and the atmosphere is jovial. Unfortunately you need a member to vouch for you to get you in and they are strict about it. There is a little pool, a long bar, and some great picnic tables for watching the sunset. Do watch out for jellyfish is the water though.
