Description
You’ll know you’ve reached the southernmost point in America not because you feel closer to Havana than Miami. While the red and black and yellow marker that tells you you’re 90 miles from Cuba might ... Read more
do it, what will really tip you off is the line of people waiting to get a new profile photo in front of that boldly colored monument. That, and the surfeit of shell vendors and curio stands. While the novelty of the photo op may or may not be your idea of worthwhile vacation time, a walk from this point and down Duvall Street to a harbor-side venue for some fresh oysters, margaritas, or Key lime pie definitely is.

A popular place to take a photo - standing in front of the iconic monument marking the southern most point of the USA.

Busy spot for fun photos! Not a place to spend a lot of time; walk by and enjoy the view. No bathrooms for a long wait to take a picture, and there are beautiful spots all around you.

If you're never seen this point it's worth the photo op. It's close to the shops and restaurants so it's easy to pop on over, see it, and then continue on with your day.

A great place to take the iconic selfie of you in front of the famous buoy, but you will likely stand in line for a while waiting your turn. Just know that both The Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor State Park are farther south!

It's the southernmost point of the US! You have to at least check it out! Plan on visiting here on days/times when the cruise ships are gone or else you'll stand in a long line waiting for your photo opp.

Of course you must go here and take your photo! There will be a line, but hey, you stand in line for a lot of things. Make the best of it and make friends with the people near you so you can take each other's photos.

This buoy stands at the furthest south tip of Key West and is purely a tourist spot. It's not the prettiest of iconic landmarks but is a historical marker that signifies that Cuba is only 90 miles away from this point. The location is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and to get a photo op, you must wait in line. If you want a picture of the buoy itself, then no line is needed.

Parking is horrendous here. So if you're lucky to find a metered spot, then consider yourself blessed. Most spots are marked as residential spots so watch out for those signs.

go early in the morning when the light is good and there is no line for photos. Be sure to check out the Western Union Cable Hut to the left of the Buoy. It is unmarked but the Western Union telegraph cable leaves the cable hut and runs 90 miles along the ocean floor to Havana.

There will be a line but it's a good place to have as a destination for a walk around the island. Someone in the family will enviable not care, but if you make it a funny memory it is really a good photo opportunity.

Great free thing to do in Key West. Yes, it is basically just a place for a photo but it's cool to be 90 miles from Cuba! And it's interesting to learn about what and why the Conch Republic came from before you visit Key West.

If you are a geography aficionado or just looking for travel bragging rights then this is a must see, the most southern point of the U.S. and 90 miles to Cuba! Who knows...maybe there will be a ferry landing here in the future to take visitors directly to Cuba. Maybe they will even serve mojitos and cohibas on board the ferry. Until then, checking out the landmark with the beautiful turquoise waves on the horizon coming towards the shoreline and crashing in the background is perfect for now.
