Top Kathmandu hotels by interest

Eccentric, bustling, and cosmopolitan, Kathmandu is a city that grabs you by the senses and refuses to let go. With a tourist tradition that goes back to 1960’s hippies searching for Shangri-La, Kathmandu is a welcoming (if overwhelming) place for visitors. It’s a city that has to be experienced to be believed: book your hotel now and dive right in.

Most of the hotels in Kathmandu can be found in Thamel, a neighbourhood which often draws comparisons with Bangkok’s Khao San Road. It’s chaotic and noisy, with plenty of tourist infrastructure. There are lots of accommodation options, from budget and mid-range to boutique and luxury hotels. There are also plenty of souvenir shops, lively restaurants, and cafes. It’s a great place to stay if you want to find your feet whilst surrounded by other tourists.

Old Freak Street just off Durbar Square also has a few cheap hotels and guesthouses to choose from. Despite what the name may suggest, the neighbourhood is far less chaotic than Thamel. The street was hippie Mecca during the 60’s and 70’s, but when the tie dyed crowd left the area fell out of favour. Nowadays the area is experiencing a bit of revival, and is a popular spot with locals and tourists.

Most of Nepal’s major festivals take place in Kathmandu. When you’re planning your trip it’s worth checking that your dates don’t clash with any of them: unless you’re planning on attending. Often the celebrations bring the city to a standstill, with businesses closing and hotels upping their prices. Most of the biggest festivals (Dashain, the Himalayan Blues Festival, Indra Jatra, Deepawali, and Teej) take place between September and November.

Skyscanner makes it easy to find and compare hotels in Kathmandu. We start by scanning the best hotel booking sites and travel agencies to find you all the accommodation available by your dates. We also show you the prices from different sites, so you can quickly see who has the best deal at a glance.

Everyone has different tastes and travel needs. That’s why we’ve made it easy for you to narrow down the results to find a hotel that suits you perfectly. You can sort the results based on star rating, price, location or popularity depending on what’s most important to you. Then you can customise your results using our filters. You can choose to only see apartments, accommodation with Wi-Fi, or hotels that fit into a certain price bracket.

Once you’ve found the ideal place to stay in Kathmandu, we’ll send you direct to the booking site to reserve your room. No hidden charges, no hidden fees, just great deals on hotels.
