Why Go

A holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem is one of the most awe-inspiring cities the world has ever known. Every step in Jerusalem's Old City is historic, while the surrounding neighborhoods are modern and exciting. To walk back through recorded history, start in the Old City. Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre -- on the location where Jesus is believed to have been crucified. View the site of the destroyed Jewish Temple (the Western Wall is all that still exists) and admire the grandeur of Islam's third holiest site, the Al Aqsa Mosque. To trace the history of the Western world, head to the Israel Museum, home to the 2000-year-old biblical Dead Sea Scrolls (first discovered in a cave by a Bedouin shepherd in the ... Read more
1940's). Prepare to be moved at the somber Yad Vashem holocaust memorial and museum. Try staying at one of the new boutique hotels in the New City, where you can dine at any number of nearby restaurants specializing in Jewish and Middle Eastern cuisines.

Jerusalem is a perhaps the most intense place I have ever been. The tensions is palpable ever, but even more is the history and Spirituality. A city that will not leave you indifferent

To understand Jerusalem through news reports is to understand the bottom of a milk carton. One of the most complex, onion-layered cities I've ever encountered and one which takes you back to the most revered moments in at least three religions. Jerusalem can be anything you want it to be: from a pilgrimage to an observation of how contemporary Jewish life is reconciling its position and confidence within a part of the world which is otherwise majority Arab and mainly Muslim. I've heard New York, London and Paris described as melting pots of cultures but nothing surpasses the actual piling up of very ancient cultures and beliefs within perhaps the most tight geographical epicentre of anywhere in the world. Whether you subscribe to a religious belief set or not, Jerusalem will absolutely blow you away.

My hometown and one of my favorite places in the whole world. It has everything for everyone - great history and historical sites, beautiful views and hikes, fine restaurants and great street food, high end fashion and great market, amazing night life and so many different cultures. All of these make this city a unique place you can't find anywhere else in the world.

Without a doubt the most incredible city on earth. The culture, history, and religious significance of this city can not be matched. You could spend a month here and not see half the sites.

Historically Jerusalem is a five - that's a no brainer. As a city that has not only a history but also a vision of the future, I give it a three - hence the four rating. The politics are complicated as is the religion, which is made even more complicated by the Medieval beliefs of the Orthodox community. Visit Jerusalem? Definitely! Stay here for an extended time period? My admiration for those who do.

Jerusalem is a city hovering between heaven and earth. Set at the heart of Israel, on the summit of the Judean mountain range which divides the desert from the sea, its gentle slopes are filled with spire-like cypresses and twisted old olive trees- a tapestry of ochre and green. Everytime I bring my groups here, our guide will give a dramatic introduction as our motor coach enters the most historical and beautiful city of Jerusalem. You will understand this once you experience the city.

A holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem is one of the most awe-inspiring cities the world has ever known. Marvel at the Dead Sea Scrolls or contemplate the Wailing Wall; you won't leave Jerusalem as exactly the same person you were when you arrived.

One of the most vibrant cities I have ever had the pleasure of visiting!
The city is alive with both traditional values and modern culture.
Do explore the different parts of the Old City and the King David Hotel.
