One of the main attractions in Taiwan, Taroko National Park is a stunning display of the beauty of nature. A winding road cuts through the 19km long gorge, with some really narrow stretches where the wall of the cliff is only inches from your car. There are many attractions inside this national park, such as the ethereal Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, etc. And there are a few trails for those who are more active; among them the most famous is the beautiful Shakadang Trail.

Taroko National Park is the star attraction on Taiwan's East coast. The famous centerpiece Taroko Gorge attracts tourists from around Asia. A road winds up the gorge and you can get out at various viewpoints and even take hikes for some stretches. Better to go a little earlier in the day to avoids some of the bus loads of mainland Chinese tourists.

When you visited by bus or car, sure you will passed Taroko National Park, it is beautiful and natural. Once it is destroyed by natural harm, but it was renovated. You can be understand why Taiwan called as 'Treasure Island'.

A beautiful scenic area and park for a side trip from Taipei. You can take a tour or plan the trip by yourself. If the later, make sure you book your return train tickets (express recommended) well in advance otherwise you could end up on a slower train and standing all the way (like I did). Once you get off the train station, there are taxi guide to take you around or the hop on bus. If you are not travelling alone, the taxi guide I found useful as it can take you around the park, price is also reasonable (negotiate!). As the park is very big, so it is handy to have a car on standby and also because you need to climb up (bring some water) to some of the pagodas there.

This is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever visit. Simply amazing. It is a must see if you visit Hualien. Expect to spend 6 to 8 hours in it.

From the waters of the Pacific to the interior, from the shrines and temples looking down on a magnificent gorge, from the winding tunnels and narrow roads to the unsurpassed views this is a place to visit if at all possible.

Absolutely gorgeous! This park reminded me a lot of Zion National Park in the states. I took a guided tour (by way of my hostel) with a guide that didn't speak a word of English. Unfortunately, I was unaware where I was or what I was looking at...but the beauty speaks for itself.

If you have the opportunity to leave Taipei, this is a MUST. The high valley walls were shrouded in fog and littered with waterfalls. I traveled across a suspension bridge that gave you views that the roads could not provide. Absolutely spectacular.

There is also an area with multiple temples and statues. The view from below was amazing--each temple/statue looked as if it was perched perilously on a protruding rock. Completely breathtaking sight to see with the fog clinging to the peaks.

It's a shame Taroko is on the east coast of Taiwan where travel is a little less convenient. The park is beautiful and majestic with its spectacular marble cliffs and canyons. Stay in Hualien and the park is about an hour drive to the north, you could make it a day trip from Hualien.

This is quite possibly the most beautiful national park I have ever been to anywhere. There used to be a highway that went all the way through it, but it got washed out a few years ago. There are regular landslides still, so you'll see various pieces of the highway that remain under constant construction and reconstruction. There are tons of vantage points along the way to marvel at the amazing scenery this park holds. Reserve an entire day for this! If you want, you can have lunch at the restaurant near one of the visitors center at the top of a road (Mountain Moon Village) to enjoy the scenery some more.

If you have more time, you can also go on one of the short or longer hiking trails -- they will just tell you to move quickly in open spaces, as falling rocks are still common. You may also have to wear a helmet.

If you're in Hualien, you have to go to Taroko National Park. There's a visitor center with some history on the park where you can get maps and find out where you want to go since the park is huge. There are waterfalls, historic shrines, and hiking paths throughout the entire park. It is a very beautiful place to visit.
