Description
Of Pearl Harbor's many historic ships the affectionately named "Mighty Mo" might just be the most famous one still holding water. It was from the deck of this very vessel that General Douglas ... Read more
MacArthur signed the document officially signifying the end of the war in the pacific, and generally putting the final nail in the coffin on one of the world's darkest chapters. The huge guns found adorning this proud battleship are now a remnant of an era long since past in terms of naval strategy. Take the opportunity to check out this fleeting example of the pinnacle of cannoned bearing ocean power that also happens to be one of the most historic battleships in the fleet.

This memorial was fascinating and very well done! I loved seeing how a ship works as well as learning about the history of WWII.

This historical battleship is best known as the place where Japan surrendered but there's so much more to see. Try your best the schedule the USS Memorial at the beginning or end of your stay so you won't feel rush here.

If you're a WWII history fan, and especially if you're already at Pearl Harbor to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, it's well worth your time to hop on the free shuttle bus over to Ford Island and tour this retired battleship. On these decks, Japan formally surrendered to end WWII, and when you're standing here you can also see the sunken USS Arizona Memorial that originally propelled the USA into war with Japan, so (as one retired military vet who was my tour guide pointed out) these two attractions are like the bookends of WWII.

The "mighty Mo" is not a free tour but the pass isn't expensive and the tour is worth it! My grandfather was here guarding the Japanese Emperor while he signed the surrender of Japan, ending WW2. The USS. Missouri is very special and worth taking the time to see!

One of the extra attractions you can visit at Pearl Harbor's beautiful memorial park, the "Mighty Mo" is a truly historic and imposing piece of machinery that is well worth the entrance fee. Guests are invited to take a guided tour of this massive vessel, focusing most on the ship's deck and her array of pulverizing cannons as well as the history behind the Missouri's most well known duty. The site of the official surrender of Japan, and the end of World War II, this hulking device designed to be the ultimate example of over-water destructive force is now memorialized as a location from which peace overcame. I guess you could call that irony since it's an example of how military power can be ultimately a tool for peace rather than only destructive. However you look at it, visiting this memorial is a memorable experience that is definitely worth doing while on Oahu.
