Stay at the Ala Moana if you’re attending a multi-day event at the convention center across the street or plan to concentrate on shopping at the adjacent 300-store Ala Moana Center, just outside of Waikiki. Local folks from the neighbor islands love to stay here to avoid the chaos of Waikiki, plus the prices are more affordable. The hotel was renovated in the last few years, so the lobby is fairly elegant and the rooms are crisp, clean and contemporary, although smallish. Be sure to book a high floor if you want views. An awesome beach park with placid water is about a block away and you can reach central Waikiki on foot in about 15 minutes. Rumours nightclub has been open for decades and is comfortably hipster free--meaning that those of us who like grooving to music from our respective eras can do it without any embarrassment. The onsite Chinese restaurant is popular with local Chinese families, so I'm guessing it's good. A brand-new restaurant is opening at the end of May 2013, finally filling the all-glass setting at the top of the hotel.

Great venue for events. I've attended the HTDV conference and Miss Hawaii 2011 here. The Rumours Nightclub below the ballroom is a great place for after-conference private functions.

Ala Moana Hotel is an excellent hotel, right outside of Waikiki, next to Ala Moana Mall, Hawaii Convention Center, and beach park. Staff and service are friendly. There's a few dining options within the hotel: Japanese, Chinese, the usual room service, as well as restaurant and bar options within walking distance at the mall. There's a dance club for those that don't want to travel into Waikiki. Ocean view rooms are great, as you're looking westward towards Magic Island and Ala Moana Beach where you can see one of the best sunsets.

A great place to go to when you want to dress up and go to a fancy smanshy resort for dinner.

When I was a kid, I wanted so badly to stay in this hotel. Why? Because Ala Moana Center was one of my favorite places to hang out. The hotel, located across the parking lot from the mall, is also home to a nightclub—catering to an older crowd—and a fancy Chinese restaurant that serves some of the island's best (and most expensive) dim sum.

About a year ago, my flight back to San Francisco was cancelled and I was offered a free cab ride to Ala Moana Hotel with a night's stay. Of course, I took it.

The room was clean and modest. The pool area and gym are nice, though not particularly fancy or exceptional. The views of Ala Moana Beach Park, however, are quite beautiful, both from the room and from the pool area. Service was exceptional.

As a hotel, Ala Moana Hotel is good, though not the fanciest you can find on the island. For those looking to adventure in Waikiki, the distance may be a deterrent from staying here, however, the proximity to the mall is quite nice. Within the mall, you'll find a reasonably priced grocery store. Nearby, a bus stop takes you anywhere on the island you need to go.

My gal pal and I stayed here through a bundled package we booked through Pleasant Holidays. You can get some really great rates for Ala Moana if you keep your eyes peeled.

Ala Moana is great for convenience---across from Ala Moana Beach, walking distance to Waikiki, and of course--in the heart of the Ala Moana Mall.

Rooms were modern and clean--but small. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

As for "Rumours", the hotel club, it can be a little bit of a mixed plate. There are your patrons who are pretty laid back but are countered by the creepers. Yep--Beware of Creepers.

Over all, not a bad option for a hotel in Honolulu.
