Home to Hong Kong Disneyland, Po Lin Monastery & the Big Buddha, Tai O Fishing Village and more Lantau Island is the largest of Hong Kong's islands and offers a lot for visitors to do and see.

So many things to do. You would need to spend and entire day there. There is a lovely little bakery in Moi wo called the village bakery.

Lantau island was one of my favourite places in Hong Kong. It's home to the Po Lin Monestary and the big Buddha, which makes it a famous tourist attraction. What's even more exciting is that there's also a walk of wisdom where you can climb to the top and see mountain views. To get there, just take the Ngong ping 360 cable car to Lantau island. I chose a crystal bottom floor, but if heights aren't your thing, choose the standard cabin.

This is actually the largest island in Hong Kong. Highlights include the fishing village of Tai O, Hong Kong Disneyland, Ngong Ping 360, and the numerous hiking trails. Whatever you choose, it's an easy day out from Hong Kong.

Lantau island is twice the size of Hong Kong island, there is beaches, Tai O fishing village, Po Lin Monastery, Giant Budda, and Ngong Ping 360 sky rail ride. Be sure to check the weather first before going.

Visited while still under British control. Wonderful sites took a local tour and they provided attire to visit some of the sights...women dresses - some covered arms (with wrap). Great place to visit don't forget a ride in a junk.

If heading to Hong Kong, it is definitely worth a visit to Lantau Island. The glass bottom tram ride is worth the visit alone for the view. As you ride up on the tram, make sure to note the hiking trail below to Lantau Peak. We did not do this hike, but it looks like a good one.

When you get closer to the peak, you'll see the Tian Tan Buddha perched on the mountaintop in the distance. Built in 1993, it has become a major tourist attraction on the island, but worth the visit. I find it very peaceful and always really enjoy seeing it.

Don't be surprised to see water buffalo meandering about the village on the walk from the tram to the buddha. They are pretty common and not very aggressive.

The Big Buddha , is a huge gigantic bronze statue on Hong Kong's largest island - Lantau. There's also a beautiful monastery known as Po Lin situated on the same island. The best part was reaching the island using the cable car, which was transparent, giving a breathtaking 360 view of sky-land-sea.

A big Buddha is the most famous attraction on the Lantau island. Visitors can order a vegetarian meal there. If you like shopping, there are many souvenior shops, restaurants and cafeterias around the Village Zone.

Cute little island you can take a bus and ferry out to for just a couple bucks. Lots of fresh seafood and cute little trinkets for sale to bring back as souvenirs. Bring sunscreen and a hat though as the sun is no joke here!

The views from the island are lovely and the trip over is pleasant. I enjoyed it but the monastery and large buddha here are a bit too Disneyesque for me to love them.

Great for a relaxing day away from the city, where you can do some hiking or just stroll around the monastery & village. There's a lot of greenery and views of the surrounding ocean and islands. If you're up for it, you can also climb up to the Buddha for a visit and even more views. Take the cable car up to enjoy a beautiful ride!

I didn't know places like this existed! I thought I was taken somewhere else... As I approached to the Buddha figure I couldn't blink anymore. Up on the mountain, these statues stood all around Buddha! Amazing!

It was alright. Gorgeous tram ride but was hoping for a little more when we got to the top. Monument was huge and neat to look at.

Catch the cable car to the Big Buddha and then hike up the stairs to Buddha. Hard work but worth it.
