Ho Chi Minh City Holidays

The epicenter of culture in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City is a vibrant population center of about 9 million. Still referred to as its original name of Saigon by most (downtown Saigon was folded into a larger metropolitan area and renamed after the war in 1975), the city is making it onto many 'Must-Visit' lists. A former French colony, Saigon is known ... Read more
as the Paris of Asia. Wide boulevards and tree-lined streets are populated with cozy cafes and architectural marvels. To understand the Vietnamese perspectives on the Vietnam War, a day spent at the Reunification Palace (supposedly it is exactly the same as it was when it fell to the North Vietnamese) and the War Remnants Museum. In 2008, the city opened the massive Dai Nam Tourist Park, where tourists and locals alike spend time at the temple, zoo, hotels, and restaurants. If the day isn’t stifling, shoppers will be in bargaining paradise at Ben Thanh Market. Finally, be sure to try some authentic Vietnamese coffee (Vietnam is the one of the top five exporters). The Cu Chi Tunnels, outside of Ho Chi Minh City, are the most popular day trip from the city.

residents are used to a little tropical downpour, so everything stays open and the city keeps moving, but the streets can flood and transportation becomes tricky. The dry season from December to April is a much better bet, and if you time your trip right, you can participate in Tet (Vietnamese New Year) celebrations, which take place in late January/early February and fill the city streets with color and energy.

People aren't kidding when they say Vietnam is friendly. I know Thailand is officially the land of smiles, but everyone I encountered there was friendly. The pho and Bánh mì are to die for, the fruit is delicious, and the coffee-I took bags and bags home.

Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon is the most populated city in Vietnam. It's an affordable city to visit if you're an American. There's plenty of delicious food to eat, places of interest, and warm weather the majority of the year. Shopping can be found just about everywhere and it's worth it to visit the Mekong Delta.

More modernised part of Vietnam with tall buildings and Western establishments. People are friendly. Climate, it's warm (At times it can get too hot). Be careful in the streets, too many motorbikes :P

The Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hochiminh City, Vietnam's biggest urban area. Many locals gather around here for coffee, and sometimes you capture young couples come here for photo shooting. The street coffee in the park here is a must-try experience, no table, no chair, you are given a paper to sit on and enjoy vehicles pass by.

While in Ho Chi Minh City, do watch out for the scooters and motorcycles! Try a local drink called nuoc sau which tastes a bit like a refreshing sour lemon lime soda.
