It's a cherry blossom extravaganza if you come to Hirosaki during the spring. The main park explodes in white and pink as you walk past food vendors and other tourists clamoring for shots of the flowery miracle.

Hirosaki is a friendly small city in the north of Honshu situated to the south of the Aomori. During the Edo Period, Hirosaki was the political and cultural capital of the Tsugaru Region. Hirosaki remains one of the most culturally rich cities in the north. It has a rich food tradition as well, with dishes such as Kaiyaki miso, igamenchi, and Ke-no-shiru. To Japanese, it is well known as an apple producing region, and consequently produces some good apple pie as well. For foreign travelers, Hirosaki is a laid back stopping-off point on the way to Hokkaido, with the chance to visit a picturesque small castle, a beautiful garden, and old traditional homes.
