Probably the best day trip from Medellin, though I thought the view of the lakes was more impressive than the old Pueblo itself. If you have two or more people, I'd recommend arranging private transport through your hotel or hostel, as the buses that go here have a dangerous reputation.

Guatapé is a lovely little town which is easy to traverse by foot once you get there. The colorful buildings and endless water landscape is inspiring and as in any Colombian Pueblo, the people are kind and welcoming.

Located about 2 hours from Medellin, Guatapé is a charming holiday town founded in 1811. Now brimming with tourists and expats, there is an ample selection of hotels and restaurants and makes a great day trip on the weekend. The town is famous for the fresco-like adornment of its traditional houses. Brightly painted depictions of people, animals and shapes cover the lower half of many houses.

Guatape is a great place to visit while you are in Medellin. Architecture and colors were great! Nice little town with a family atmosphere on Sundays. All kind of water activities to do plus walking through the town.

Cute pueblo just two hours outside of Medellin. Be sure to climb to the top of La Piedra!

Guatapé is a beautiful village about two hours from Medellin. Unlike most villages in Colombia the houses here are very bright and colourful. Some have strange combinations: yellow, blue, pink, orange, and brown; but somehow they work. Most of these houses have bas-reliefs. They portrait the interests, beliefs or occupations of the occupants. Others also portrait the cultural images of the local people. Wandering around the colourful houses and looking for beautiful or strange bas-reliefs is a good way to spend an afternoon. On weekends peaceful Guatapé transforms itself from a laidback village into the centre of activities. Residents from Medellin and nearby towns come here for a nice Sunday meal. Most congregate at the waterfront for some fun activities: boat rides, kayaking, canopy zipline, etc. Stalls mushroom around these activities selling local delicacies and handicrafts.
