The Malmaison Hotel, a long-standing favourite of mine, offers a vibrant mix of style and comfort to everyone who chooses to stay there.
From the minute you make your grand entrance through the gigantic doors of this former Episcopal Church to check-in, it's pretty evident that the beauty of this place lies in the attention to detail.
The swirling staircase up to the floor above is a masterpiece of wrought iron design. Then there's the array of textiles used in the furnishings. From deep velvets to tartans and checks, the interiors of the bedrooms are warm and inviting. Inside your room, you'll find powerful showers with Arran Aromatics Toiletries, DVD's and flat-screen TV's and if you feel like imbibing, you'll have the option of purchasing a bottle of the hotel's wine.
Downstairs there's the Mal Bar from which you can sit and people watch whilst waiting on your table in the Brasserie. Inside the hotel's restaurant, you'll find a warmly-lit ambiance and a classy vibe. A mixture of wood and leather and wrought iron make for somewhere you don't want to rush out of. I recommend their steak and chips. There's even a private dining room for business lunches and dinners or private family parties. Speaking of which, the hotel's location is just a few minutes walk from Glasgow City Centre which is party-central on a weekend night.
For special occasions and celebrations, check out The Big Yin Suite which is dedicated to that famous Glasgwegian himself, Billy Connolly.
I confess that I would happily get on my knees, pray or shout "Hallelujah" to sleep in this former Episcopal Church (which is why I'm giving it five-stars in spite of only glimpsing this Malmaison from afar). This 1830s church was converted into a a 72-room hotel in the 1990's.
