Expensive and not that great a location, a good 15 minute walk from the city centre. Good for business travellers due to proximity to the financial services district. There is a nice lounge bar on the ground floor but it is expensive.

The Hotel Indigo is quietly tucked away in the Financial district of the City Centre, effortlessly going about its business in a rather elegant manner.

One of the newest hotels to open in Glasgow, Hotel Indigo is a rather quirky recipe for success. First of all there's the genuine friendliness of the staff. No phony smiles and body language that says they would rather be somewhere else. Instead, with Hotel Indigo, what you see is what you get.

There's the brightly lit neon pink reception area situated across from a colourful lounging area and restaurant and if you look above you'll see murals depicting Scottish celebrities. Other pieces of Art are displayed all around and have been supplied by students at Glasgow School of Art and therein lies the connection to the building you are in.

This grandiose Victorian building was once the headquarters of Scottish Power, and when the power was first switched on, the first building to be illuminated was the Art School.

In the 94 bedrooms, you'll find colour choices to suit your own particular taste, be it pink, green or blue. So remember to tell the staff your favourite colour when you go to check in. Then you're in for a pretty surprise because these are some of most nicely decorated bedrooms you will find in town.

From decadent headboards and wallpaper depicting the streets of Glasgow to rainfall showers and crisp Egyptian cotton, you'll feel very much at home in whatever colour you choose.

What a gem! This brand new Glasgow hotel is from the same family as the Holiday Inn, but it’s the somewhat more chic cousin. Colourful flashes appear on furniture and walls. Enormous frescos nestle between the expertly restored Victorian features, and bold trendy touches complete the pleasantly juxtaposed space. It smells lovely. Apparently they pump seasonal scents into the reception space to create an atmosphere…yum.

The hospitality of the staff here immediately reflects the surroundings, well-presented yet casual and ‘cool’. Colin, who I chatted with, is obviously passionate about where he works, and this is a priceless asset in any staff member.

He tells me that Hotel Indigo aims to reflect the surrounding neighborhood. Art in the restaurant, reception and corridors relates to the culture of Glasgow—music, art, theatre, industry, celebrity and geography are all beautifully and enchantingly represented. Even the bar resonated with the community, with Glasgow brewed beers on tap and Scottish spirits dominating the shelves.

The rooms are fantastically thought out, and each of the three floors is colour themed: hot pink, lush grass-green or exotic turquoise. You’re supposed to choose your room colour to suit your personality, and I think it’s an absolutely fantastic idea. Thoughtful touches are the icing on the cake—ipod docking, luxurious bedding, Wi-Fi, mini-bars, desks and really enormous mirrors.

With prices starting at £110 for the spacious, comfortable executive room you get a lot more than you pay for in this fantastically thought out hotel. A real treasure I will happily recommend to anybody, and everybody.
