You know what? It's exactly what you expect. It's basically a plane on the ground but in hotel form and it's actually alright.

It's super central and it's cheap (I paid £9 for a twin room - yes nine quid) so as long as you're not treating a lady/man friend, it's ideal for a night out.

Surprisingly, it's not as orange as I imagined it would be. Only one wall had an orange strip down it which I could live with. The beds are pretty solid (and come with plastic undersheets...), you've gotta pay for remote controls/windows and you can have a shower whilst on the toilet. Win/win.

The staff are also ridiculously friendly. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Finding my way into the EasyHotel on a wet Saturday afternoon in Glasgow was akin to breaking into Colditz. Let it be said that all your worries about hotel security have been nipped in the bud. Maybe it's the Airline background, but security appears to be something that EasyHotel takes seriously.

Once you are in, you'll find 7 floors of accommodation ranging from 83 doubles, 35 twins and 7 easy access. You have to specify whether or not you want a window or non-window room [ there's that airline thing again!]. Think of a ship and you'll get the jist of this hotel.

Inside, there's functional, clean compact rooms with everything you need until you move onto your next destination. One night is plenty, any longer, I would be struggling.

That said, you get what you pay for and in an EasyHotel the extra charges are there in black and white: Wi-Fi Internet is £3 per hour, £5 for 24hrs and £25 for 5 days. Housekeeping is £10 for a room cleaning session and if you need to park your car, you'll pay £10 for 24hrs parking in Cambridge Street Parking, you'll also pay a charge for your TV remote!

If there's two of you checking in, make sure you get the bed that faces onto the TV otherwise you'll spend the night looking at a blank wall.

All said, if you just need somewhere to lay your head for the night then a room at the EasyHotel would be my choice.

I had a firm idea in mind of what the Easy Hotel would be like, and it matched my expectations exactly. Compact, functional, and with hints of quirky Euro-design this is one hotel that does what it says on the tin!

Entry is via a buzzer system and lift/stairs to the first-floor reception. The staff are young and casual, and refreshingly matter of fact. The colour scheme throughout is, predictably, pale grey and Easy Jet’s signature vivid orange. There are no public spaces save the reception. Alongside a couple of computers I found a pretty cool vending machine that not only offered basic snacks, but also a Pot Noodle (fork included) and mini ‘kits’ including toothbrushes and sewing materials.

Rooms come in a variety of combinations: window/non-window, double/twin, accessible/non-accessible. Non-window rooms, as they suggest, are in the centre of the building and offer no natural light or views, but still provide a functional, clean place to rest your head. The most pleasant surprise of all is just how well-planned each room is. There is luggage space beneath each bed, a flat screen TV on every wall and rather cute ‘capsule bathrooms’ with dinky, cheerful orange sinks. Accessible accommodation has a roll-in wet-room and ample turning space around the bed.

A room for two people, right in the centre of Glasgow, is available for a mere £50. If you’re looking for functionality, but don’t fancy the shared spaces of a hostel, this is a great wee option for a fleeting visit.
