Foster City

Glasgow was quiet and laid back city. I had a chance to visit back in 2004 with my previous job, visiting our office there. Last day after work, I got to walk around the city and have a few scotch drinks and some local food. Night life here doesn't come alive til after 11pm, when I was already very sleepy.

People usually come to Scotland to see Edinburgh but if you don't come for a visit to Glasgow then you are really missing out. Edinburgh might be the historical and cultural capital but Glasgow is really where it is happening with the best bars, restaurants and nightlife around. There are plenty of world class museums to visit, parks, country houses and the shopping is second only to that in London.

I preferred Edinburgh to Glasgow in terms of big city Scotland. In Glasgow stroll around the University of Glasgow's grounds, grab a pint in a church at Oran Mor and snag some delicious tapas food at Brutti Ma Buoni.

So many great places in Scotland to suggest but from Glasgow you can do a day trip to Edinburgh and possibly one to Fort William or Oban and then explore Glasgow the rest of the time - there's anything and everything there and you will never tire of it.

New York City

One of the friendliest places in the world. Big rivalry between those from Glasgow and nearby Edinburgh and citizens of each will describe themselves as different from each other. Look for architectural and interior gems from Arts and Crafts master McIntosh.

Glasgow is Scotland's largest city. Like Edinburgh it has a nice old town center. However, Glasgow also has an industrial and shipping history that Edinburgh doesn't have and it gives the city a little more of an edge. Despite having gone through some hard times with the loss of manufacturing and shipping jobs, it has started to rebound economically.

While Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and enjoys some great museums as a result, Glasgow is the bigger city with better shopping and also some great museums.
