It's possible to do a day trip to Fraser Island but highly recommended that you do at least a night's stop here. It's beautiful - a world heritage site and wonderful for nature lovers. Love the lakes and the rain forests, it's like paradise. My favourite: Lake McKenzie - is amazing. White sand, blue waters - can't ask for more!

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, the only place where a rainforest grows in the sand, a World Heritage Site, and a national park--plenty of reasons to board the ferry outside of Hervey Bay. It's known for its freshwater lakes, sand highway, wild dogs called dingoes, and lots of campsites. Four-wheel drive vehicles are the easiest way to explore the island. Drive to Indian Head, the Champagne Pools, Lake Wabby, Lake McKenzie, the Maheno Wreck, and the Cape Sandy Lighthouse. A unique destination along the southern Queensland coast.

Biggest sand island in the world. Largest rainwater lakes. Best 4x4 driving. Best beach camping. It doesn't get any better.

A type of ecological preserve, Fraser Island is an experience for nature lovers. There are all kinds of monitor lizards and other creatures crawling around. The tour is quite exciting, I have never been on a bus that needed super shocks and seat belts to keep people from flying all over the place. It's a full day of nature watching and will keep even the little travelers interested.
