Beaches, salsa clubs, Disney World, Orlando, the Sunshine State...all of these things are synonymous with Florida. Yet they comprise a mostly over-glamorized version of an overall amazing state, which has more to offer than the international tourist favorites. planet, like the alligator or endangered manatee. Play in the large harbor of Tampa Bay, or in the nearby city of St. Petersburg - named the Sunshine City for its abundance of warm rays. Sway to the beat of sexy Latin music in sultry Miami, visit the famous NASA launch site at Cape Canaveral, and sample some of the finest seafood you'll ever taste in the panhandle. If all that's not enough to curb your wanderlust, you can hop among hundreds of islands, big and small, in The Florida Keys.

When to go

Florida’s mild climate, gorgeous beaches and family-friendly attractions draw visitors year-round. Peak season is mid-December to mid-April when snowbirds escape colder temperatures to enjoy subtropical weather ... Read more
(but even Florida isn’t immune to brief “cold snaps”, so be sure to pack a light jacket). April through May and September through November are also great times to visit since hotel prices are lower and the weather is still pleasant. Summer brings hotter temperatures and humidity, which can become unbearable inland, though coastal areas have the benefit of cool sea breezes. Hurricane season runs from June to November, so be sure to keep a close eye on weather forecasts in case a storm blows in.

Florida... a great place to visit but not a place to live. At least for right now but we can re-visit that idea when I turn 68. Florida is a bigger state than just Miami and Orlando. Plenty of coastline spots to hang out on both sides of the state, and don't forget the keys.

Personally I love warm, tropical weather so Florida is place I like to be. Lot so people from New York, New Jersey and all over the Northeast head south for the more agreeable weather.

Adrian Chang said it all. Florida is horrible. Florida is wonderful. The pockets of unbelievable tropical beauty make all the rest of it worth it. Florida is home.

Florida is an interesting place to be. You have the Miami strip for nightlife (it's not that big) and Disneyworld nearby. The climate is typically warm and humid. Cool place to visit, probably not so cool to live.

Florida is a unique State. It's more liberal in the south than it is in the north. It's the home of Disney World, space shuttles and the Miami nightlife. Take a cruise to the Caribbean or drive out to the amazing Florida Keys. And the fun continues to the local wildlife, particularly for alligator lovers.

We have only been to the Orlando area as we "did"the parks. We discovered for us that if the kids had been younger we would have enjoyed the Disney parks but as they are older teens they weren't to interested and I think the hype before we went ,we expected more. The Universal parks on the other hand were great the teens loved it and so did the older ones of the family group. We did go out on a tour airboat and really enjoyed that, saw some crocigators(can never remember if its gators or crocs ).Shopping is great and you can find anything from the expensive to the cheap and tacky and for me the tackier the better.Take lots of photos and remember where you go,I found keeping a quick holiday diary was great as when I am at home on a cold rainy day,I get out the photos and the diary and dream of heat and sun.
