Though originally intended by architect Giuseppe Poggi as a gallery to display the works of Michelangelo, today Piazzale Michelangelo is a panoramic lookout for tourists and locals alike. A sweeping ... Read more
view of Florence from this observation point captures the entire city: the Duomo, Forte Belvedere, Santa Croce, the Ponte Vecchio and more. After snapping a few photos, grab a cappuccino in the square's neoclassical-style restaurant and examine a bronze replica of The David which, along with a few other sculptures, were brought up the hill as an attempt to fulfill Poggi's original dream.

This is one of the best views of the city besides the top of the Duomo. I do recommend taking a taxi to the top. You can also make this a stop with a rental car on your way in and out of Florence if traveling by car.

This piazza has the best view of the entire city of Florence. It’s a bit of a hike up, but it’s totally worth it. It’s especially beautiful at night!

Wonderful views of Florence and the surrounding countryside. If visiting here, try to see the San Miniato Church nearby, very special to Florentines.

Sunset view of Florence is best from Piazzale Michelangelo. Here you can see the beauty of Duomo from afar.

It's kind of a trek from the center of the city, but once you're atop the hillside, you'll see why people make it. The view of the city is second to none, and is particularly amazing at sunset.

Michelangelo is one of my favourite artists and admired his arts very much. Happy and enjoy my trip here.Designed in 1869 by Florentine architect Giuseppe Poggi, Piazzale Michelangelo offers panoramic views of Florence and the Arno valley and it is a popular spot with locals and tourists.

View of Florence from above. Beautiful, though photos are often blocked by trees. Better views can be had at the tops of church towers.

Get here in time for sunset! You can see an amazing panoramic view of Florence of the transition from day into night. As the city lights up, you'll be glad you took that mini-hike to get up here. The view will leave you speechless!

It's not far from Ponte Vecchio, which is a spot I'm sure you're already planning to visit, so make the extra trip to visit this landmark. Don't miss out on coming here, it's definitely worth the extra walk :)

A nice escape from the hustle and bustle of central Florence. A long walk or a quick bus ride up the hill provides you with spectacular views of the city as well as a place to have a little lunch of aperitivo.

This is the place from where you will see the most spectacular panorama of Florence, expecially at sunset.
It leaves everyone breathless. Soul restoring.
I suggest it to everybody : age 0 - 99 and more

The best views of Florence can be had from here, and I believe the true beauty of Florence lies in looking at it from above. Built more to please God than its inhabitants! It is a moderately challenging walk from the city centre, providing you find the steps up, I wouldn't recommend the Viale route. The church of San Miniato sul Monte is also lovely whilst your up there.

Looking at Florence from the Piazza really gives you a feel for how Romantic Florence is. Beware it is very crowded during sunset! Get there early to get a good spot to snap photos!

Piazzale Michelangelo, which is the piazza located just under San Miniato Church, is famous in Florence for as a fantastic viewing point and romantic spot to meet. It hold one of the three David replicas in the city and is also host to a number of classy bars and nightclubs with a view. A popular activity in the summer months is to walk or jog up the hill face to reach the piazza.
Take ATAF Linea 12 or 13; or get here with the City Sightseeing Bus.

Loved this outlook over the city, especially at night. Really great to see the city lit up, even if it's not that high of an overlook in my opinion. A great place to take it slow, saw a lot of people up there late at night with their family and friends.
