Pleasant Hill

Perched on the edge of spectacular Emerald Lake, the original Emerald Lake Lodge was constructed in 1902. It was purchased by the current CMR owners in 1979, restored, and then reopened in 1986.

The Lodge (and Cabins) are well located and maybe to preserve part of the ecosystem and the tranquillity, you have to park your car and take a shuttle bus to the main building (the only historic Lodge structure left). Form there, staff will take you to your cabin in golf carts. I chose to walk in and stop at the bar for a drink.

Built of hand-hewn timber and featuring massive stone fireplaces, the Lodge includes an elegant dining room, quiet reading and sitting rooms, and conference facilities. The lounge features an oak bar salvaged from an 1890s-era Yukon saloon, but the payoff is sitting out on the deck and taking in the stunning view. It was one of those special times when I felt awed and small.

Emerald Lake really is the the colour emerald. Gorgeous! We did not stay at the lodge but wandered about and had lunch on their patio. There is no cell phone service and I believe they don't have tv's. It is definitely for getting away from it all.

San Francisco

What an amazing lodge. Close to Lake Louise and the incredible skiing it provides. The rooms are all in small buildings and each room has a wood burning fire place, comfy beds, balconies, and heated bathroom floors. Great hot tub, fire pit, and food. Bring your veggies as the restaurant serves A LOT of meat.

Spent 3 nights Feb. 2011, now I can't wait to go back in the summer.
