Linderhof Palace was one of the palaces built by Bavarian King Ludwig II during the 19th Century. It's essentially a miniature of Versailles, with an equestrian statue of Louis XIV to boot. The grounds are my favorite part. First, the palace is surrounded by mountains covered with evergreen trees. Secondly there are lovely fountains, statues, gazebos and trellises everywhere.

Beautiful palace with a very interesting tour providing an interesting insight into the mind of the eccentric King Ludwig. I sadly visited here during the winter missing the beauty of the gardens. Will most definitely make a second visit here in time during the late spring.

Smaller and more delicate compared to other castles in the area, Linderhof is well-worth the visit, since it is rarely mobbed by tourists. Definitely worth seeing in person.

Really great side trip after checking out Neuschwanstein. It's a chance to follow up on Crazy Ludwig and his obsessions. The opera grotto is especially fun since it was a poorly conceived fanboy project dedicated to Wagner. The excesses at every turn are thoroughly entertaining.
