Presque Isle, designated a state park in 1921, is why most people come to Erie. The freshwater beaches were voted best in the country by USA Today readers. There are miles of trails for hiking. You will see deer, foxes, coyotes, beavers, turtles and a seemingly infinite variety of wildflowers and native and migratory birds. The fishing, either in Presque Isle Bay or Lake Erie, is incredible, whether you're on a boat, wading, or casting from shore. Though Presque Isle State Park is my favorite place in the world, it does have its negatives: beware of the rampant poison ivy, mosquitoes (at dusk) and deer ticks, which carry Lyme Disease. Wear long sleeves and pants when hiking and deet repellent.

Some of my fondest memories of growing up in Erie, PA were our beach days at Presque Isle. We would often head out, and make breakfast on the beach! 13 miles of roads, 21 miles of trails and 13 beaches.

The Summer Sunset Concert Series are relaxing. We go here for an afternoon bike ride or to get some rays on the beach. Also we like to fish off the pier and grab some ice cream at Sara's on our way out!

Grew up visiting the beaches here and canoeing in the lagoons. Now every summer we make family trips to the beach with my kids.

Presque Isle State Park is a 3,200-acre sandy peninsula that arches into Lake Erie. As Pennsylvania's only "seashore," Presque Isle offers its visitors a beautiful coastline and many recreational activities, including swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, bicycling and in-line skating. A National Natural Landmark, Presque Isle is a favorite spot for migrating birds. Because of the many unique habitats, Presque Isle contains a greater number of the state's endangered, threatened and rare species than any other area of comparable size in Pennsylvania.

The gateway to Presque Isle is the new Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC). An educational center at heart, TREC is dedicated to teaching visitors about Presque Isle and the many different forms of life that inhabit this unique peninsula. TREC also serves as a center for research, contributing to conservation efforts and promoting environmental awareness, helping to preserve the unparalleled beauty of Presque Isle. There is free admission to the interactive exhibits and the 75-foot observation tower.
