Local from Edinburgh

It may not be quite as high as Arthur’s Seat, but it’ll still take the wind out of your sails. It’s also an excellent place to see the Forth Bridges on a clear day, and perfect to watch the sun set (or rise)

Local from Edinburgh

Salisbury Crags ("the Crags") are the outcroppings you see around the front of Arthur's Seat when viewed from central Edinburgh. You can take a walk right around the edge of their cliff faces or the path halfway up known as the Radical Road. The views of the city are almost as fantastic as those from the top of Arthur's Seat with about half the climbing.

Recommended, especially if you're not up for climbing a full mountain but still want a taste of Edinburgh's inner city hiking!

Most people have heard of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, but few know of Salisbury Crags. And it's actually on the way to Arthur's Seat (you can also see the Crags from the top of Arthur's Seat). There are great running paths along it and it's the perfect place to spend a rare sunny day in Edinburgh.

Hobart

In how many cities of the world can you be surrounded by suburbia one minute, and then less than an hour later be sitting at the top of an old volcanic plug?! While Salisbury Crags can be a destination in itself, for most it is one of the many sights to see and experience on the way up to Arthur's Seat. The cliffs loom over Edinburgh, offering great views across the city. Why not take a picnic and a can or two or Irn Bru in your backpack? It's not the safest place for young children, so do beware. There are plenty of trails that will get you up there, so put on your boots and get moving!

No doubt, these are the best places to admire the views over Edinburgh. The Old Town, New Town, Castle, and the bay, you can see them all from here. Both are great places to work out and soak up the fresh morning air while enjoying this fine city.
